Charities

Midlands Air Ambulance Charity
The Midlands Air Ambulance is responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving the Midlands and Welsh borders and the largest air ambulance patrol region in the UK. Since 1991, the Charity has completed more than 30,000 mercy mission averaging 3,500 per year or nearly ten each day making it one of the longest established and busiest Air Ambulance organisations in the UK. In the last ten months alone, it has attended 1048 road traffic accidents on some of the most congested motorway networks in the country, responded to 175 industrial accidents, 432 sporting injuries completed 100 emergency hospital transfers and airlifted 188 children. The Charity’s three aircraft each carries a crew comprising Pilot, two Paramedics or Flight Doctor plus full life-support medical equipment, operating from strategically located regional air bases. The maximum flying time to hospital from anywhere in the region is less than 15 minutes. What it is not widely known is that Midlands Air Ambulance receives no government or National Lottery funding, so the £5.6 million needed each year to keep its 3 Air Ambulances operational is donated entirely by the public and local businesses with 1 in 10 of those we help funded by Gifts in Wills. If a patient reaches hospital within 60 minutes of injury, their chances of survival are dramatically increased. That is why the rapid response of The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is so vital in an emergency situation. The Charity is fortunate to count on tremendous public support and good will, but never takes this for granted. Winning and keeping hearts and minds is an essential and constant challenge. That is why it regards the real ‘helicopter heroes’ as not only the flight and medic crews, but those, often unsung, ground heroes, its fund raisers. The Charity re-branded as the Midlands Air Ambulance to emphasise its regional identity and appeal.
St Richard's School Bredenbury Court
St Richard’s is a co-educational boarding and day school from nursery to year eight. While the school is founded on the Catholic faith and Christian values are paramount, we welcome children of all denominations. St Richard’s is set in 35 acres of glorious Herefordshire countryside. We have recently launched an Appeal to enable us to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Hirons Hall, our indoor sports hall with which any Old Ricardian will be very familiar. Primarily, we intend to re-roof and re-clad the Hirons Hall and install heating. Our second phase is to build changing facilities alongside the Hirons Hall; this will have the added benefit of releasing a lot of pressure around the back corridors of the main building. To improve access to this area and parking in general we will re-model the staff carpark and create a more aesthetically pleasing approach to the school. Any surplus funds at this stage will be channelled towards the updating and refurbishment of the school's other facilities. Please join us in making this a successful and exciting project; we have set ourselves a demanding challenge but are confident that, with the loyal support of all those who come into contact with the school, it is all very achievable.

Hi, Im Callum and along with my classmate Abigail Cunningham (our dad's) and teacher Mrs Di Morgan we aim to complete the Three Peaks Challenge.  Abigail and I attend St Richards School, Bredenbury, Herefordshire, and as we are due to leave in July to move onto our new schools (Christ College Brecon here I come) we would like to give something back to the school as we have spent many happy years there. Our other chosen charity is the Midlands Air Ambulance which is a very worthy cause.

Thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

UPDATE

Sunday 20th May 2012 - Training is going well, I went on my last training walk/climb today up the Brecon Beacons, taking in Pen Y Fan and Fan Y Big. I feel fit and ready for next weekend now.

Fundraising is going well also, however, this is my final plea and push to raise some more for the two very worthwhile causes.

I will let you all know how we get on next week.

3 PEAKS WEEKEND

We left school at 11am on Friday 25th May with the cars packed to the rafters for every eventuality. After a pit stop at a servies on the M6 in Cumbria we realised we had a stowaway in the form of HARDY our Head of Boys Games, he was hiding in Mrs Morgan's car!!! This was a great surprise for Abi and I.  Our challenge began at 0610hrs on Saturday 26th May at Ben Nevis, we quickly conquered this in 4hrs 30m, and after a dip in the river to refresh our feet we then headed south to our 2nd mountain Scafell Pike in Cumbria. This was our most difficult climb due to the heat and long gradual climb to the summit. We still managed a time of 4hrs 45m. After a hot boil in the bag meal and drink prepared by our mums and Les we then headed further South to our 3rd and final mountain Snowdon. Equipped with our head torches we ascended in the dark, on the descent the sun was rising which made things a little easier. After Mrs Morgan setting a strong pace we reached the summit in 1hr 50m, we then began our descent reaching the end in 4hrs at 0510hrs on Sunday 27th May, giving us an overall time of 23hrs exactly. After a hearty breakfast I am now resting at home.

WOW WHAT A WEEKEND

Thank you Abi, Dad, Andy, Mrs Morgan, Hardy, Mum, Kim & Mr Morgan.x
