The Whitehawk Inn - The Whitehawk Inn, is a Brighton based, award winning charity, has been chosen as one of only six Official Local Charities for the 2012 Brighton Marathon. The Whitehawk Inn, current holder of The Argus Appeal’s ‘Charity of the Year ‘and Brighton & Hove Council’s ‘Best Community Initiative’ awards, works tirelessly to offer those residents of Brighton & Hove who have, for some reason, ‘lost their way’ or are ‘searching for a new direction’ every chance possible to find their new life. As a community led organisation, the charity’s dedicated and passionate workforce provide information and advice about learning and work, offering a range of support activities for adults. The Centre itself is a bright, local community hub that provides visitors and learners with an inspirational environment in which to spend time with people who genuinely want to help them to move forward. In just over a decade, The Whitehawk Inn has helped more than 7,400 people. 70% of whom live in an area of deprivation and 92% have known barriers to participation that result in social exclusion, poverty, low educational attainment and skill levels, poor work prospects, poor health and family breakdown. Inside just three years The Whitehawk Inn supported 200 people back to work and thus resulted in a reported improvement in their quality of life, including increased self-confidence, motivation and a feeling of being more connected to others in the community.

2012 Brighton Marathon

Just two Brighton Marathons behind us and the Olympic year to come these are exciting times for running in the oh so energised city of Brighton and Hove and in the UK generally; next year will be quite some year! We anticipate the 2012 edition of the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 15th April, being bigger than either of the two previous editions and entries have been pouring in since the Monday morning immediately after our recent race on April 10th. If you’re thinking about entering, don’t think for too long!

Charlotte-Elizabeth is 19 years old and moved to Brighton when she was just 4.  Until now, her only focus has been on her educational studies and her love of swimming and reading.  Running is something she hates!

She spends any free time she has with her beloved, life-long friends.  However, most of her time is spent preparing for university life where she will study Criminal Psychology. 

She loves travel and learning more about international culture and will make any excuse to take her studies abroad. 

 Her choice to run the 2012 Brighton Marathon has come as a complete shock to her family, as they know her best for her lazy attitude to exercise. (Swimming an exception).  However, it is purely as a result of learning more about The Whitehawk Inn and the work they do, that has inspired her to make this complete u-turn and agree to run a staggering 26 miles! Charlotte-Elizabeth said “I had a very privileged education and I want to do all I can to help the Whitehawk Inn continue to give educational opportunities to those who might not otherwise have the same chances I had”. 

 She has also said that she couldn’t possibly have considered it without the fantastic support from Adam Kann of Fizeeek and the fun-loving team of the Whitehawk Inn runners.
