Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People. - Bring love, smiles and laughter to our children’s lives. Just like everyone else, our children need a place to play, laugh and love life. A place where they and their families are cared for and supported. Welcome to Rainbows, the East Midlands’ hospice for children and young people. Sadly, some children simply don’t live long enough. Since 1994 we’ve opened our doors and hearts to those children and the people who love them most. And now more than ever, we need your help to keep on bringing hope and happiness to our children and families. As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where life limited children and their families can take a break from life’s worries and heartaches. Our incredible team of people helps relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through the darkest of bereavements and care for children until the end. From carers to counsellors, medical professionals to palliative care specialists. It’s our people that are at the heart of Rainbows. It costs Rainbows £3.8 million each year to provide care for life-limited children. We receive very little government funding, so any support you give is vital. Dig deep as any amount can make a huge difference.

I am to take on a challenge tougher than Everest in July 2013 - Swimming the english Channel.

I am SELF FUNDING THE SWIM so every penny donated will go to Rainbows and the amazing work they do.

Less than 1,000 people have completed the 21 -mile cross-Channel swim, whereas over 3000 have conquered the world's tallest mountain. Only one in ten people who train for the channel actually complete it.

The English Channel is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, with over 600 tankers and 200 ferries crossing it every day. Other problems include debris, jellyfish, currents and tides.

As part of the challenge you are not allowed to wear anything that aids buoyancy or warmth. However I will be accompanied by a support boat to ensure I stay out of trouble.

I hope to undertake this epic challenge in the week beginning the 13th July 2013.
