Charity

The Friends Of St Michaels School Busembatia Uganda Limited
St Michael’s is a girls' primary school in a desperately poor area of rural Uganda. It achieves excellent national examination results but needs our help to thrive and develop. It plays a vital role in the community. We work closely with St. Michael's Management to determine achievable priorities for its development. We then provide the funds relying on family, friends and increasingly people like you from further afield. As a small charity, staffed by volunteers, we are able to minimise costs. So far we have improved classrooms, built a sickbay and library/computer block. We pay the salary of a nurse, a librarian and a seamstress. We have provided a few computers, bought goats, chickens and pigs and provided sports equipment. Some cost a lot, some a little but all asked for by the School Management and targetted to make a difference to the pupils and staff. We fund school lunches for the day girls. This small maize porridge meal means they stay on rather than go home half-way through their learning day and have the energy to remain attentive. A number of generous donors sponsor the orphans at the school (38) lessening the cost to the school. The school provides a home for these children and they live on the campus all year round.

Hello, thank you for visiting our page.

We are two headmasters - of Wellington College, Berkshire and Warminster School, Wiltshire - who have decided to compete in the 2017 Marathon des Sables in Morocco. We are running to raise money for a new building at St Michael's School, a girls' primary school in rural Uganda.

In 1997 and 2004 Mark rowed across the Atlantic (pair and then solo) and in 2015 Julian walked to the South Pole. A running race across the Sahara seemed the logical next step!

Donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
