Charity

The Meningitis Trust
The Meningitis Trust is the UK’s longest established meningitis charity. It helps around 20,000 people each year through its range of specialist services; giving vital support to those who have been affected by this life-changing disease. With as many as 500,000 people living in the UK who have had either viral or bacterial meningitis and up to one adult in every four knowing someone who has had meningitis, the charity’s ongoing work is much-needed. The charity is committed to raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of meningitis and distributes millions of leaflets, posters, symptoms cards, information sheets and other materials every year. Imo's Raising Money for Meningitis Trust!

Hello, I'm Imogen and I'm currently at the University of Nottingham. Since I became a student last September, I've become very involved in Karnival, the charity fundraising organisation based at the university. I enjoy going to different cities at the weekends, shaking buckets and raising money for charity.

I am particularly involved in fundraising for the Meningitis Trust, a charity which is particularly close to my heart, as my father's sister had bacterial meningitis and died aged three. Had there been a charity like The Meningtis Trust things could have been different.

The Meningitis Trust gets no government funding and is entirely dependent on the fundraising of individuals like me. The Meningitis Trust is there to help those who are suffering from Meningitis, and gives support to their families.

This summer, as part of a real fundraising push, I'll be taking part in a trek across the Inca Trail in Machu Picchu in Peru. It is a 9 day trek crossing the high Andes from the town of Cusco to the ruins of Machu Picchu, reaching altitudes of 4650m. I have got quite a lot of training to do to get fit for this great challenge.

I would be so grateful if you would consider sponsoring me to do this huge walk in support of the Meningitis Trust. It is very easy to support me via this page and I would really appreciate any contribution, however small, to help make this adventure worthwhile.

I will keep you posted on how I get on and hope to have lots of pictures to show you on my return.

Love from Imogen xxx

The Meningitis Trust:

The Meningitis Trust is the primary UK provider of professional services and community support for those affected by meningitis, helping around 20,000 people every year.

The Meningitis Trust needs constant help to raise money to pay for its services, providing a lifeline for people affected by meningitis, through services such as providing 24  hour support to everyone impacted by meningitis to conducting research into the after effects of the disease. It is completely reliant on voluntary contributions to continue its vital work.

How you can make a difference:

£5 can help pay for crayons and creative materials for a child to use in art therapy

£15 can help fund the Meningitis Trust’s free phone 24-hour nurse staffed helpline for one hour

£50 can fund a session of specialist physiotherapy, to help a child with physical disabilities caused by meningitis

£100 can fund one home visit by professionally trained staff to offer support and information to help families cope with the devastating effects of meningitis
