Charities

The Fire Fighters Charity
The Fire Fighters Charity provides vital support services to fire service personnel and their families when they need it most. The Charity’s three specialist centres across the UK offer fire fighters the help they need to recover from injury, surgery or illness, so they can get back to their job of saving lives.
SOFT UK
SOFT UK provides information & support for those affected by trisomy 13 or trisomy 18, (Patau's and Edwards' syndromes), and related disorders. We help parents when they are given a prenatal diagnosis and after any decision they might make as to whether they choose to have a termination or decide to continue the pregnancy. We support those caring for a baby or child with these conditions, and families if a bereavement occurs. SOFT UK publishes booklets about these syndromes, and provides telephone support, links to others and shared experiences through newsletters and annual SOFT Days. We welcome enquiries from doctors, nursing staff and students. Visit our website for online information booklets, data about these conditions, photographs of babies and children, and our new SOFT Stars Remembrance page.

We are going to Trek around 887 miles of Shetlands  stunning and often inhospitable coastline this summer. We are doing this to raise £22,000 to split equally between The Archie Foundation, SOFT UK and The Fire Fighters Charity.

We are going to Trek around 113 miles of coastline of 7 of the smaller islands on 7 various days in May & June and will start the main part of the trek on 24th June. We shall cover the remaining 774 miles over the following 31 days, meaning we will have to walk an avarage of 25miles per day.

The Archie Foundation are in the process of becoming registered to use Virgin Money Giving and when they are we shall create a new page to incorporate all 3 charities. At the end of the fundraising all charities will recieve an equal amount of money. This will be done by Archie recieving a proportionally larger share of the money which is raised through sponsor sheets and fund raising events.

All donations are gratefully recieved and while we have set a high target, we believe with help from the very generous Shetland community and all kind hearted souls from further afield, we can reach this target and help make a difference to the 3 very worthwhile good causes.

Many thanks - Jim and Ewan
