North Norfolk Surf Lifesaving

Charity

North Norfolk Surf Life Saving Club
NNSLSC is a not for profit organisation, run by volunteers, which relies on fundraising, grants, donations and sponsorship from the public and business to supply its members with up to date training and equipment. We run the club on Sundays from April, until it's light enough for us to move to Wednesday's at 7pm and until we have finished all the sessions, though if there is good surf we tend to stay longer. Our goal is to provide year round training including swimming sessions during the winter. This will look to start in the Autumn this year. Our members are all ages, from a broad range of backgrounds and we encourage anyone who wants to have a taster to come along to a session. SLSGB is also the officiating body for the UK beach lifeguarding qualification so if you have an interest in becoming a beach lifeguard then pop along for a session also!

Climbing Denali for Lifesaving

Hi Folks.

As you know - outside of work i have the honour of leading a wonderful team of volunteers who run North Norfolk Surf Lifesaving - a charity that saves lives at sea. More on them here www.nnslsc.org.uk

Each year we have to raise over £10k to keep the club and its 125+ members aged 7 upwards supported and operational

For the last few years i have volunteeded to crawl through mud, swim silly distances and generally knacker myself in aid of this wonderful club and in 2016 have decided to step it up a gear

Next month, along with my long-suffering challenge partner Alan we will be heading off to the remotest regions of Alaska to attempt to summit Denali - the highest mountain in the Americas at 20,000+ feet.

I have waited until a month to go as frankly this is a pretty huge challenge and i have been preparing in the background to make sure i am confident of this undertaking

It's a month long challenge and the chances of success are just over 50% - the temperatures on the mountain can dip to -50 and the weather is generally awful. Plus we have to haul all the equipment up and down as its a self sufficient challenge.

So with that in mind, dont be tight and help me hit the target - every pound goes to the club and it really does change lives.

We will be updating this as we progress but for now im back to dragging a tyre sled up a hill in preperation

All the best

Mike
