Charity

The Daisy Garland
A family-run national children’s charity providing active support for children with drug-resistant epilepsy and their parents/carers. The charity was set up in memory of our daughter Daisy who tragically died at 6 years of age from SUDEP (sudden unexpected death in epilepsy patients). We provide NHS hospitals with ketogenic dietitians - a medically recognised and accepted way of treating drug resistant epilepsy. This diet is not widely available on the NHS due to lack of funding. We also provide grants for night-time breathing monitors to children with drug-resistant epilepsy.

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Hello everybody for visiting our page.

Poppy is our 7 year old daughter. She has drug resistant epilepsy and has been on medication since she was 18 months old. In May 2013, Poppy was given an amazing opportunity to try the ketogenic diet. This is a strict high fat, low carbohydrate diet that is a successful treatment for epilepsy but is not widely used by many hospitals around the UK. We are extremely lucky to have a Daisy Garland Ketogenic dietician at our local hospital in Nottinhgam. Our dietician is funded by the Daisy Garland. We have been using the diet to treat Poppy's epilepsy for over 2 years now. We have had some seizure freedom throughout this time, but most importantly, Poppy is almost medication free. She was previously on 3 combined medications and she could not function. She was having up to 18 seizures every day. She really was very poorly and so we are so grateful to the Daisy Garland for giving us the chance to try the diet for Poppy. Poppy has also been given a night time heart rate monitor to reduce her risk of SUDEP. This monitor was also funded by the Daisy Garland and we are beyond grateful for the peace of mind it brings to us each night when Poppy sleeps. The Daisy Garland have given our family endless love and support throughout our journey and so Chris and Karen will be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon on Sunday27th September to help The Daisy Garland bring more hope to other families around the UK by funding night time breathing monitors and help to continue funding their dieticians across the UK. Chris and Karen will be dressed up as crazy daisies during the race,  so we hope to see you there. Any donations are welcome and we do appreciate your help.
