SUDEP Action
There are at least three epilepsy-related deaths a day in the UK. The majority are Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP). We care for the bereaved and work with families and professionals to make change. Using research and awareness, we strive to get the answers that will save lives.

My page:

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. We plan to sail round the UK in 2013 and want to use the trip to raise money for epilepsy research and eduction in memory of John's daughter, Helena, through sponsorship and donations.

Helena died in 2005 from SUDEP - a form of epilepsy that strikes suddenly and unexpectedly. Epilepsy is not generally thought of as a killer but about 1000 people die in the UK each year from the disease. It strikes down all ages but in particular young people in the prime of life in the age range from the late teens to thirty. Epilepsy Bereaved, our chosen charity, estimate that about 40% of these sudden deaths could be avoided through education and the use of appropriate drugs. All monies raised will be given to Epilepsy Bereaved to support their education and research programme.

We are delighted that Staunton Harold Sailing Club have nominated Epilepsy Bereaved as their Comodore's Charity for 2012/2013 and we look forward to raising a substantial sum for this most worthwhile of charities.

Briefly, our plan is to do the trip (which is about 2500 miles) between May and September 2013. If you want to take part in any part of our trip or simply meet up on route then please just let us know and we would love to have you with us or see you! You can contact us at or see our blog page www.
