Guide Dogs
The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of blind and partially sighted people never leave home alone. Guide Dogs empowers visually impaired people to do that and relies totally on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service. We breed and train guide dogs which provide life changing mobility and there are currently 4,500 working guide dog partnerships in the UK. The full lifetime cost of a guide dog from birth to retirement is £48,500. We will not rest until blind and partially sighted people can enjoy the same freedom of movement as everyone else.
Macmillan Cancer Support
We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers. Our primary focus is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.
Help for Heroes
Help for Heroes (H4H) was founded by Bryn and Emma Parry after a profoundly moving visit to Selly Oak Hospital in the summer of 2007. Bryn and Emma met some extraordinarily brave young people who had been badly wounded and they just wanted to do something to help. "It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."
The Air Ambulance Service
The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS) is made up of two Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS); Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) and Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA), as well as a unique transfer service for seriously ill children, The Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA). The main aim of TAAS is to prevent loss of life and help the sick and injured, but we can only do this with the help of our supporters. Receiving no financial support from the Government or National Lottery our lifesaving Charity purely exists thanks to voluntary donations from members of the public. WNAA and DLRAA provide an invaluable service, bringing the hospital emergency department to the accident scene. Our highly qualified and experienced team can quickly turn their hands to any medical situation, and with our state-of-the-art helicopters we can access places land ambulances are unable to reach. Our service allows medical intervention to begin within minutes and continue en-route to the hospital which can mean the difference between life and death. Every year our skilled team attend many varied and difficult missions: from sporting accidents and cardiac arrests, to road traffic collisions and agricultural incidents. To find out more about our HEMS please visit www.wnaa.co.uk and www.dlraa.co.uk. For more information visit www.thechildrensairambulance.org.uk or call 08454 130999.

So what so you see? Me sitting on my big bum doing not alot? Well, looks can be deceiving ....... I'm going for value for sponsorship which I hope you'll appreciate so PLEASE keep on reading, it won't take a moment..

Like I'm sure alot of people, I applied for tickets to London 2012 Olympics and got none. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement so I decided to create my own mini Olympics.

I will be taking part in: London Marathon, London to Paris bike ride (well Cambridge to Paris so a bit further), British Gas Great London Swim - 1 mile open water swim, London duathlon - challenge distance and London Triathlon - Olympic didstance. Think that will do me!

**** UPDATE**** just to let people know, I did not take part in this years London Marathon to my major disapointment due to illness. I have deferred to 2013. I pulled out 2 days before hand after going down to London to pick my running number up. It was such a hard choice but I had been to the doctors as I had picked up a cold which moved into my chest. They gave my an inhaler to open my airways and would have had to run with it. I couldn't even run down the road without tightness in my chest so took the London Marathon's advice and others. If I could not have deferred I would have run but I also had to think about my other events and get better. I hope you understand. I will be running Peterborough half marathon so I have a run this year but will have 2013 to link in with this :-)

I decided this time to raise money for 4 GREAT charities which your sponorship will be split between equally. Each one has been chosen for various reasons. Below are a few good reasons why;

MACMILLIAN - I'm sure all of us knows someone effected by cancer. Its hard for those who are closest to it and every little piece of help and support is so valuable at a time when everything around them is in a spin.

GUIDE DOGS - who wouldn't love those cute puppies?! I'm lucky enough to have full sight and take in all the delights of colour thats thrown at me. Others are not so fortunate and rely on Guide Dogs for their sight and their independence. I take it for granted and I guess I shouldn't!

AIR AMBULANCE - as much as this say Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance, it is infact the sister service of my areas Air Ambulance which is Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, so the money will be going to them. The roads/activities, well anything we all do these days is hazzardous and we all presume that if required the air ambulance will be there for us. Hopefully it will be but I'd just like to make sure!!

HELP FOR HEROES - they are my heroes and I'm sure they are yours. They put their lives on the line every day and deserve our support when they are injured. Its the very least we can do for them!!!

My aim was to raise £700 and I happily reached that mile stone so raised the bar to £1000. Blew that number out of the water thanks to amazing supporters so I'm going for DOUBLE my orginal target!! Got to keep pushing myself so £1400 it is :-) = NOW SMASHED, come on £1500!! WOW, people have been fantastic! Now raised my target to £1800 (over £1000 more than my orginal) ..... The new target is £2200! Its amazing the support I've had ...... the marathon is days away!!!!

So, thanks for visiting my page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donation that you are able to make. EVERY hard earned pound counts as you all know.

P.S for those that don't know me, my previous exploits include for charity; 2nd base camp of Everest, white water rafting down the Zambezi, static line parachute jump (solo), half marathons, 2 marathons, open water swims, coast to coast on my bike, balloon races .... I think thats it but it gives you a good idea. I like having things to plan for and aim for - keeps me occupied!!
