UHCW Charity
UHCW Charity is the charity for both hospitals with in University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust - University Hospital Coventry and the Hopsital of St Cross Rugby We also support local mental and community healthcare needs by administering charitable donations given to Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust and NHS Coventry (also known as Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust). Through donations and by raising funds, UHCW Charity enhances and improves patient care and facilities, so our local community has the best possible health care, now and in the future. We do this by: Purchasing patient comforts, such as entertainment equipment , supporting arts and crafts activities, toys and books Funding improvements to the hospital environment to make it more welcoming to patients Providing facilities for patient’s family members, such as parents rooms on the Neonantal Unit Supporting a holistic approach to patients care, such as the Healing Arts Programme Funding state of the art equipment Contributing to clinical research Helping staff to keep their skills and knowledge up to date Supporting staff welfare Your donations cannot be absorbed into NHS budgets as we are independent to the NHS bodies we support - registered with the Charity Commission we act solely for public benefit.

100 Holes of Golf in a Day's fundraising page

Fundraisers:
Lee Sykes, Campbell Askwith, Simon Kaye

Stop Press!: We successfully completed our 100 holes of golf challenge on Wednesday 6th, taking 16 hours in total, starting at 4.10am. Between us we played 1,495 shots. The support we had during the day was amazing - thanks to everyone! Now on to the Party on Saturday...and the Party was also fantastic - thanks to everyone for attending and being so generous in the raffle and auction. Thanks also to all the bands - Bronte, G.I.M.P and GlassHouse, and all the helpers too!

PS : when donating using this site, please take care to only use Gift Aid for personal sponsorship (and not for auction prizes / tickets)! Thanks.

Three friends - Lee Sykes, Campbell Askwith and Simon Kaye, will set out on an extreme challenge to play 100 holes of golf in one day for charity. Lee’s wife, Tracey, battled against Breast Cancer, but finally passed away in 2009. It was horrible to see such a vibrant life end at the age of just 42. She was, though, given such magnificent care by the University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) Cancer Unit – that we are now aiming to raise some money for them.

Not being able to run the marathon dressed as a pantomime horses, nor being robust enough to swim the channel – we plumped for something we could do, but that would stretch us - Golf! So, on the 6th July 2011, we are going to play 100 holes of golf in a single day at Leamington & County Golf Club. It should take about 19 hours and we will trundle across 33 miles of the Warwickshire countryside.

We are aiming to raise over £15,000 – which is an enormous sum - and hence we need you to help us. Here are five main ways that you can:-

  1. Personal sponsorship of Lee, Campbell and Simon, through the www.virginmoneygiving.com/100holes website
  2. Enter a team for a corporate golf competition on the same day – but only 18 holes! (and have a chance to win a new Jaguar XF car!)
  3. Sponsorship of one of the 18 holes on the course (each to be played at least 5 times)
  4. Coming along to a fund-raising party on July 9th 2011 with a raffle / auction and great rock covers band ‘Glasshouse’
  5. Popping down on the day to cheer our weary legs on and make a donation

We will be seeking significant local media exposure for our sponsors and supporters, working in conjunction with the official UHCW Charity fund-raising team who are naturally very excited about the event. Adela Shephard from the UHCW Charity said “We are very grateful to Lee and his friends for organising and taking part in this fantastic event, the money raised will help to fund equipment and facilities that the NHS does not provide and it will make a real difference to the speed and quality of care for local people diagnosed with breast cancer”

We hope you can support us in one of the 5 ways identified above, and look forward to providing further info and updates on our progress in exceeding our fund-raising target for this very worthwhile cause. Thank you!.
