Charity
Our mission is to give young people in the remote Indian Himalayan region of Ladakh the confidence and competence to succeed in the modern world, together with a sound grounding in Ladhaki language, culture and traditions. Drukpa Trust works with its local partner to: 1. provide top class education at Druk White Lotus School, Shey: a 'mother school' that aims to combine the best modern education with respect for the unique Tibetan Buddhist way of life; 2. offer opportunities to disadvantaged children from remote areas, who would otherwise receive poor formal schooling: Druk White Lotus recently opened its first branch school in Khachey, a remote Muslim and Buddhist community in Ladakh’s Kargil region around seven hours’ drive from Shey; 3. grow a new generation of Ladakhi and Tibetan educationists who can deliver child-centred learning rather than teacher-centric cramming, who can encourage exploration rather than rote-learning, and who can make learning fun; 4. mobilise funding for scholarships so that talented students can pursue their studies at the best further and higher educational institutions in India; 5. offer enterprise and vocational opportunities so that young people can find viable livelihoods in Ladakh; and 6. avoid the environmental damage and cultural extinction experienced in some other parts of the world.

The 108 Run fundraising page
To celebrate 10 Years of the Druk White Lotus School, I am running 10 times, once for each of the 10 years being celebrated, between 24th September 2011 and the end of the year. My aim is to cover a distance of 108 kilometers.
The first run took place in Epsom on September 24th, 2011. It took me 1 hour and 34 minutes to cover 10.8 kilometres. I included a harder than expected climb to the Epsom racecourse, a couple of encounters with friendly dogs and a bridleway traffic jam. According to my heart rate monitor I perhaps overcooked it a little bit.
Details of the next run will be available here, it will either take place in Epsom Common or in Regents Park. I any case, the second run will be flatter than first run.
Thanks for your support.
