Christophers Smile
Christopher’s Smile was set up in October 2008 by Karen and Kevin Capel following the tragic death of their only son Christopher from medulloblastoma, an aggressive childhood brain tumour. Supporting UK research centres such as the Institute of Cancer Research, Christopher ’s Smile aims to raise money to fund development of new drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects. These drugs will provide an effective cure for all and save the lives of the 25% of children who currently do not survive their disease. "Our vision is for every child diagnosed with childhood cancer to not only survive, but to reach adulthood enjoying a good quality of life."

Hello - a brief update on our walk....

The good news is that everyone in the team is relatively injury-free and we are all back home safely.

The not-so-good news is that after 9 hours of walking on Day 1, and by mid-morning on Day 2, the guide decided that it was unsafe to continue the 24 Peaks Challenge.  This decision was due to the treacherous weather conditions that we were having to deal with - heavy downpours..., hail..., 80mph winds, gusting to 90mph...., and heavy mist. As disappointed as we all were, we agreed with the guide’s decision on both days.

We have decided to return in Spring next year to complete parts of the challenge.

Despite the bad weather, we all enjoyed the hike; the spectacular scenery; and most of all the pasta "carbo-loading" nights.....

We've updated this webpage with a few photo's.

Many thanks for your very kind donations.

24 Peaks Team

**********************

Hi, thanks for visiting our web-page.

In September our team of 8 (Alison, Christina, Debbie, Jane, Karen, Kim, Natasha & Tessa) will be heading up to the Lake District to complete the 24-Peaks Challenge - over 2 days (gulp!).

Along with the physical challenge, we have also set ourselves a goal of raising funds for a very worthy charity - Christopher's Smile.  This charity was set up in October 2008 by the parents of Christopher Capel following his tragic death from medulloblastoma, an aggressive childhood brain tumour.

Supporting UK research centres such as the Institute of Cancer Research, Christopher ’s Smile aims to raise money to fund development of new drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects.

The vision of the charity is for every child diagnosed with childhood cancer to not only survive, but to reach adulthood enjoying a good quality of life.  If you are able to donate to this worthy cause, no matter how small, we will greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks,

24 Peaks Team
