Kaidie runs for SHELTER 2011 Nondon Marathon

Fundraiser:

Hello world!

***2011 April17 Nondon Marathon: THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! YOUR SPONSORSHIP SPURRED US TO THE FINISHING LINE: We came home at 4 hours 24 minutes 37 seconds. SEE FULL REPORT HERE! THANK YOU!!! ***

Thank you very much for visiting our fundraising page. We are running the 2011 Nondon Marathon for Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity!  We will raise at least GBP£1500 - and we need YOUR HELP! This will be our 2nd full marathon, and the 3rd time we are raising money through our Life 1.0 running (The first was a 10km run for the Medecins Sans Frontieres in March 2010; the second was a 42km run along the historical Pilgrim's route in Surrey in September 2010, for the Farnham hospices).

However this will be the first time we aim to raise this much money. And, as this race takes place in Nondon, which is our favourite city of this (and other) world(s), we are trembling with excitement as we speak (and no, the freezing temperatures of Nondon has nothing to do with our jelly-ish quivering!). So do help us in Shelter's meaningful cause!! It goes without saying that WHATEVER amount you donate will be greatly appreciated. And, in return, we will blast your name in our user-unfriendly website, Facebook, and Twitter pages! You can also follow our progress (or regress?) in our training as tracked by our Garmin Forerunner 405 on GPSies!

It also goes without saying too, that from now until race day, we will be running our arses off, for it would be embarassing would it not, if we couldn't complete the race without resorting to going down on our knees on all fours! Your financial blackmail will do much to spur us on  (YOU will be on our minds as we put one foot after the other!! Yes YOU!) in the dark and lonely days of boring training in the hamster wheel of a gym or the cold conditions outdoors - this however is nothing compared to what the homeless have to endure day in, day out. Running is what we as trans-dimensional runners are capable of doing (and we are not all that good at all!!), so please support our tiny, tiny gesture. On race day itself on 17 April, please do come and support us and other runners of Shelter. There are many strategic spots in astounding Nondon for cheering us on, so no excuses!

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. To run for Shelter we have paid a £100 entry fee, but every single, single penny we raise goes DIRCETLY to Shelter, and we pocket nothing. (We have no pockets on our running clothes anyways!)

Thank you very much indeed, our Dearest Readers. We really appreciate all your support and thank you SO MUCH for your support!

Kaidie is the latest incarnation of artist/art curator/art educator Kai Syng Tan. Kai Syng's work has been shown in more than 45 cities (Guangzhou Triennale, Biennale of Sydney, ICA London, House of World Cultures, Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival). Kai Syng has won several awards (SFIFF merit video award, Young Artist Award, Most Promising Young Artist Award aged 18), residencies (NIFCA, Japan Foundation) and grants. She is an advisor in a panel at the Media Development Authority of Singapore. For 7 years she was also a digital arts consultant and film lecturer, and ran a Video Art degree programme in an art university. Trained in Tokyo (MA in Imaging Science and Arts, Excellence Award, Distinctions, Musashino Art University), Chicago (School of Art Institute) and London (BA in Fine Art, 1st class Honours, Slade School of Fine Art) on full scholarships, Kai Syng is currently a PhD researcher at the Slade School of Fine Art on scholarships from University College London and the National Arts Council of Singapore. Kai Syng’s interdisciplinary work (performance, cine-essay, installation, text et al) examines the notion of ‘reality.’ In one of her previous lives, she had done this by viewing the world through a self-reflexive video camera of a restless tourist/traveller and had been named ‘one of Singapore’s foremost video artists’ (Dr Eugene TAN, 2007, in Contemporary Art In Singapore. Eds NADARARAJAN G, STORER, R. & TAN, E. Institute of Contemporary Arts. Singapore. 142.) Her current work involves a written thesis and practice as part of her PhD research. Entitled (Trans-dimensional) Running for Our Lives! A Rough Guide, the thesis proposes the critical strategy of trans-dimensional running as a means of running (managing, navigation and negotiation) our 21st century technologically-layered multiverse. The practice, A Rough Guide To The Meaning of A Life 3.0: Kaidie’s Transdimensional 1000-day Run 12.12.2009 – 09.09.2012, climaxes when Kaidie dies on the last day of the 2012 Nondon Olympics (whether she succeeds in finding the Meaning of Life or not)! For the purpose of this project, Kai Syng has picked up running in real life - and while she is at it, she tries to make it meaningful for others as well. Kaidie needs your help for her quixotic quest - write in with your advice on how/where she could find the Meaning of Life! COME RUN WITH KAIDIE!
