Hi from the not very dynamic duo (Alastair Minty and Derrick Strong)

What are we putting ourselves through and why?

We are doing 5 events for 5 charities, which we have called the 5-4-5 Challenge. Inspire has agreed to collect all the donations and split the money equally between the charities, thanks for that   :-)

We will not be worrying any record holders, but we do promise to give it our best shot, and that the combination of open water swimming, mountain biking and running up and down hills will cause us real pain and may require someone to sweep up the pieces afterwards, especially as the last 3 events all take place within 6 weeks...

The events are -

  • Baker Hughes 10k run

  • Stonehaven Half Marathon

  • Long Hard Durty Triathlon (Aviemore)

  • Long Hard Durty Triathlon (Selkirk)

  • Loch Ness Marathon

The charities are -

  • Inspire (Partnership Through Life)

  • I-Connect North East

  • Values Into Action Scotland

  • In Control Scotland

  • Manavodaya UK

Why these charities? I have been involved to varying degrees with the work of all of these organisations -

I have been working for Inspire for the last 22 years supporting people with learning disabilities across the North East of Scotland, and for the last year have also been setting up I-Connect North East from the work of The Info Hub, to be a seperate independent organisation from the 1st of September 2014, supporting inclusion and opportunities.

I am on the board of Values Into Action Scotland; a campaigning organisation with strong links to employment opportunities for people with disabilities. I have been involved with In Control both through my work at Inspire and also as an Associate, being the North of Scotland Hub Network Coordinator.

Finally Manavodaya Uk who support the international work of Manavodaya, helping some of the poorest and most disenfranchised people in the world to take control over their lives and create better futures for themselves. I have been on a course with Varun, and try to apply the values and principles to my work.

What they all have in common is that they all have a focus on empowerment, and are seeking to create opportunities for people to have better futures.

Why is Del doing this, because he is a top bloke, and also because I made him after he let me do my first triathlon on my own last year with almost no preparation and a £40 surfing wetsuit...

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
