AFC Halifax's fundraising page
Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
Hi there this will be the fifth year that members of AFC Halifax have taken part in the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K. Five years ago three of us took part but as the team has grown so have the fundraising efforts and last year twelve players took part including FC Halifax Town mascot Freddie the Fox. Almost four years ago player coach David Thompson lost his wife Sarah to cancer after a long battle with the illness, during the time Sarah was diagnosed with cancer she began to fundraise to help other people with this illness and completed the Great North Run and the gruelling Liversedge half marathon just weeks after having chemotherapy. She was such a brave and beautiful person, so because of this AFC Halifax began to fundraise for macmillan cancer support and try and continue Sarah's work in helping other people live and get through the effects of cancer.
Last year the group were hit hard by the loss of one of the youngest members of the squad Jonny Bramley, a lovely young , bright ,enthusiatic lad who was struck down by this disease at just 17 years of age. AFC Halifax competed for and won a trophy which was renamed in his memory at Leeds Worldnet in the summer of 2010.
Over the last five years AFC Halifax have raised nearly £12,000 for cancer charities.
So to the challenges, we have pledged to run in the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10K once again but just to add to the difficulty factor as manager of the team I have set the lads a daunting challange. We have organised for eighteen of the players, including former FC Halifax Town player Paul Sykes, to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks which will be a gruelling challenge even for fine athletes such as stewart heaton! Apparantly this walk takes ten hours to do and is done over treacherous terrain. to complete the challenge we have to finish the 26 miles in less than 12 hours. So please if you can spare anything at all sponsor the team we would be so grateful and you can be assured it is going to a very worthwhile cause.
This charity holds a special place in the hearts of all the AFC Halifax squad and the support we have received since we started the club in 2006 has been nothing short of incredible. We all know someone who has had their lives affected by cancer, so please get that credit or debit card out and donate, it does not matter what amount you donate as every little bit helps others.
Here are a few things that your donation could go towards.
£350 - could pay for a convalescent break for someone with cancer and their carer.
£51 - could buy a liquidiser for someone who can't eat solid food as a result of their cancer treatment.
£17.50 - could pay for one more member of a cancer support group to go on a social event with other support group members.
Macmillan cancer support rely on our supporters for 99% of our income. Without you we couldn't provide any of our services for people living with cancer.
