WHO WE ARE - AMURT is an international relief and development organisation, founded in India in 1965. AMURT is significant for being one of the few global NGOs originating from the developing world. - We have worked in over 80 countries and presently have grassroots relief teams and development projects in over 30 countries. - Our greatest strength is our wealth of human resource, particularly our dedicated local staff and our experienced, life-long volunteers, many of whom have sacrificed careers and material comfort to serve others. WHAT WE DO - We work with local people and resources to relieve immediate suffering at the time of an emergency. - We also work to empower local communities to be self-sustainable in the long term. - We see people as capable of achieving far more than they often imagine and support them, within their own social, cultural and religious context, to realise their full human and spiritual potential. OUR APPROACH - We believe that real progress comes with the all-round development of individuals and their communities. - We empower individuals to be the bright, free-thinking drivers of change. Together with these community leaders we foster the principles of responsibility, love and leadership, helping to uplift the whole community. - We lay great emphasis on the development of sustainable projects, which generate their own income and thus can maintain themselves in the long run.

AMURT UK FOR AMURTEL Greece Fundraising Page

AMURT UK are fundraising to support our sister organisation AMURTEL Greece to bring better nutrition and healthcare to pregnant and lactating refugees in Athens. Please consider making a donation to show the world that refugee mothers and babies matter!

In countries affected by humanitarian crises, the nutritional needs of pregnant and lactating mothers are often woefully unmet by emergency food delivered in camps and en route. Maternal under nutrition predisposes both mother and infant to many problems including low birth weight or small for gestational age babies and failure to thrive.

Responding to the urgent needs of the mothers and infants that they are supporting, AMURTEL Greece have started giving out food parcels to the beneficiaries of their programmes. Each parcel contains lentils, rice, oats, bananas, dried fruits (mainly figs, dates and apricots), special nutritional biscuits, vitamins and supplements including iron, folic acid and calcium. The cost of running the food programme is 700 euro’s per month and so far, this has been met by random donations at the very last minute.

Please help us regularise the donations coming in, to better support refugee mothers and babies at their most vulnerable stages in life! This can be done by clicking on the Donate button below. Your donations will make a huge difference to the lives of women and children who have been traumatised by war and are unable to properly provide for themselves.

AMURTEL an organisation specifically set up by women and running programmes for women and children in troubled regions of the world. It is the goal of AMURTEL to assist communities in their recovery and development while honouring their customs, language, and religious beliefs.
