Charities
Abbeyfield is one of the largest voluntary sector UK-wide providers of housing and care for older people, committed to alleviating loneliness while maintaining independence. Founded in 1956, Abbeyfield has grown to include over 700 houses and 80 care homes managed by professional staff and volunteers, providing support, care and friendship for around 7,000 residents. Few organisations better understand the experience of ageing. This knowledge has helped shape our values, services and facilities to provide older people greater choice in how they live their lives - sensitive to their preferences and requirements. We're about so much more than just bricks and mortar. Our focus is on the individual. All our income is put straight back into providing the best possible services and meeting the changing needs of our residents. Quality of life begins at home, and as our homes are not owned by a parent company, we don't have shareholders - we're simply a charity that puts the needs of older people first. We own all our houses and homes outright - from sheltered living accommodation to homes for those suffering from dementia. Across the UK we've accommodation tailored to the needs of our residents, designed to provide the very best life for older people. And with an army of volunteers supporting us, we have access to an almost unlimited source of feedback and extra ideas about the services we provide. We have a long and proud tradition of being there for the older members of society, and to continue to do so we need your help. Donations are vital to us and with your generosity we can continue to plan for the future.
The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) supports people affected by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and their families, friends and carers. RA can strike at any age causing joint swelling and stiffness and extreme pain and fatigue. Around 700,000 people are affected with around 12,000 children suffering from the juvenile form of the disease. There is presently no cure and approximately 26,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. We give support through our freephone Helpline, a nationwide Volunteer Network with one to one telephone support, a wide range of publications and leaflets on all aspects of living with the disease, and our informative website. We also campaign to raise awareness of the disease and ensure fair treatment and best use of resources for all those with RA.

Alan's Big Bike Ride
Hi, thanks for visiting my page.
This summer (28th May - 6th June) I am attempting to cycle from Lands End to John O' Groats with my friend, Simon Taylor, and supported by my dad, Paul Rogers.
During this challenge, I will be raising money for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) and Cove House.
The NRAS provides support, information and advocacy for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, their families, friends and carers. Their goal is ‘a better life for people living with Rheumatoid Arthritis’.
Cove House is a care home for elderly people. Located in Silverdale, they have accommodation for approximately 20 residents. Their fund raising activites are useful in providing the residents with that little bit extra, but Cove House is often overlooked by bigger, more established, charities when it comes to raising money. Cove House is a member of the Abbeyfield Society, who I will be raising money for. They will ensure that Cove House receive all the donations that are received from this challenge.
My mother has recently been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and my sister and cousin both work at Cove House, so you can see that both of these causes are very personal to me.
Please donate as much as you can as these are, like many, very worthy causes.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
Simon is also raising money for his own reasons. To see what charities he's raising money and his reasons for doing it check out his page at:- http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/simon-taylor
