Andy Climbs Mt Kilimanjaro & Mt Kenya

Hi there,

Thanks for visiting my fund raising page Kilimanjaro Challenge page.

I have set myself a personal challenge of climbing the highest free standing mountain in the world Mt Kilimanjaro at 19,340 ft followed immediately by Mt Kenya at 17,057 ft.  At these height's there is only about 50% of the oxygen at sea level. Not only that I will have to endure sleeping on the side of a mountain for 10 days with temperatures going down to -15 degrees. Finally I hear the toilet situation is a bit basic.

Whilst this is a personal challenge fully funded from my own resources I want some good to come out of it. That is why I have decided to raise funds on behalf of a small local charity called the Nasio Trust. I know I've left it a bit late!

The Nasio Trust was set up my Jonathan & Nancy Hunt in 2001 to support the HIV Orphans and Vulnerable Children of Kenya. The work started with only 15 children in a rundown shack. Today the Nasio Trust supports over 250 children from two purpose build centres.

Their vision is that all children orphaned or made vulnerable as a result of HIV should have a meal a day, receive medical care, be treated with love, have space to be a child and have a sense of family.

Nasio works in partnership with local communities, schools, hospitals and organisations in Western Kenya with the following objectives:

To provide education, medical care, clothing and healthy meals to HIV orphans from the age of 3 years at our two day care centres, Noah’s Ark and St Irene’s.

To support these children through their primary education at local schools and beyond through secondary education and university.

The Nasio Trust is also developing suitable apprenticeship opportunities for the children at the end of their education and supports them through their training, to equip them with the skills necessary to earn a living and break the cycle of poverty.

Climbing Kilimanjaro & Mt Kenya for The Nasio Trust is a once in a life-time experience (i.e. I ain't doing it again!!). Please support me to fundraise for such a worthy cause and help these children achieve their dreams.
