Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. Over half of all cancer research in the UK is carried out by our scientists. We have discovered new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer that together have saved millions of lives across the world. We have been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival rates double in the last thirty years. But one in three of us will still get cancer at some point in our lives. Our groundbreaking work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people will survive.

Hi,

The 29th April 2012 will see me run my 6th marathon. I ran my first marathon back in 2001 in Manchester, the race is being relaunched this year after a 10 year absence so I thought it would be fitting to head back 'Up North' and see how I've improved or havent since 2001.
I'm going to raise funds for Cancer Research UK as only last month a friend of mine Gerry lost his battle to cancer, numeorus other friends and relatives have also suffered recently and I would like to do my bit by raising some much needed funds to help support those living with cancer and to help find a cure.
Running 26.2 miles will hurt a lot but it's nothing compared to how some suffer each day at the hands of this awful disease, my pain from running for nearly 4 hours will also go after a few days and I will be able to carry on my life as normal, unlike those who experience pain and suffering every day.
In 2001 I finished in 602nd place in a time of 3:53:03 so it'll be very interesting to see how I fair in 2012.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Best wishes
Andy. x
