BRACE Alzheimer's research
BRACE raises money to fund research into Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. It's about hope - the hope, based on solid science, that we will understand, control and finally beat this terrible disease. A new case of dementia occurs somewhere in the world every 7 seconds. It affects 1 in 50 people aged 65-70 and as many as 1 in 5 over 80. BRACE funds researchers at universities in the West Country and South Wales, focusing its resources to help build a world class research network in the region. However, dementia is a problem for the whole human race and the benefits of the research are therefore global. We welcome supporters and volunteers anywhere.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

I'm running the 2017 London Marathon in honour of my wonderful Grandma who suffers from Dementia. 

Having moved in with her when she began to deteriorate and could no longer live alone, it was heartbreaking to see the effect the disease had on her. I didn't appreciate how bad Dementia can be until I did this. 

Thanks to the amazing support and sacrifice of my family (one aunt in particular) we were able to keep her at home as she wished for a long 5 years until she recently moved to a home to receive care we aren't able to provide. We were lucky to be able to do this and I imagine most families aren't able to make such a big commitment for their loved ones. 

This is my first marathon, the only other organised runs I've done have been 5k so this is a big deal for me and will require a lot of training and hard work, but all worth it for such a good cause. I'm also running the Brighton half marathon in February so really you're getting 1.5 marathons out of me - what a bargain!

Sadly since writing this page and starting training my Grandma's battle with dementia came to an end and she passed away in hospital in the company of her daugthers.

I really appreciate all your support and any donations, big or small, would be amazing.
