MND Scotland
MND Scotland 76 Firhill Road Glasgow G20 7BA 0141 945 1077 www.mndscotland.org.uk Motor Neurone Disease stops the nerve cells that control the body’s movement from sending messages to muscles. MND is often rapid and always fatal. There is no known cure. As the disease progresses, the person will lose their ability to walk, talk and feed themselves, although their intellect usually remains unaffected. They will eventually lose the ability to breathe unaided. The average life expectancy is just 14 months from diagnosis. There are currently 373 people living in Scotland with MND, and more than 130 people will be diagnosed this year. MND Scotland is the only charity providing care and support for people with MND and their carers, while also funding research into the disease. Everyone with MND in Scotland receives direct care from our team of Care Specialists who also ensure that our information and support services can be accessed after diagnosis and throughout the progression of the disease. We provide direct support to people with MND and their families, through the loan of specialist equipment such as electronic communication aids for people who can no longer speak, financial support, information, advice, and professional counselling for people affected by MND and relatives bereaved by the loss of someone to MND.
Forget-Me-Not Club
The Forget-Me-not Club is a unique, local, independent support organisation for people with dementia and their carers on Royal Deeside. It was set up in September 1999 and has grown and evolved into its present form where it cares for about 100 people at any one time. The club provides a meeting place where people get together, take part in craft activities, table top games such as scrabble and dominoes, chat, get support and advice, relax and have fun. Carers are cared for with a range of therapies including hand massage and reiki. From one meeting a week in Banchory Scout Hall, the Forget-Me-Not Club has expanded to weekly meetings at seven different Deeside locations.

We all successfully completed the ride & we are approaching our fundraising target - the link below has a selection of photos from the weekend....

At the end of May 45 cyclists will embark on a three day ride of 220 miles across Scotland, beginning on the West coast in Helensburgh and finishing on the East coast at Aberdeen.  Their aim is to raise funds for three very worthy charities who do fantastic work to help those struggling with various debilitations or life shortening diseases.  First is MND Scotland which funds research and provides support for sufferers of this awful disease that slowly but very surely kills the nervous system and therefore control of the muscles that keep us mobile and alive.  Former BP employee Ian Bowen suffers.  Second is Riding for the Disabled Gordon Group, a local branch of charity that enables children and adults with physical disabilities or learning difficulties to enjoy horse riding to improve their health, wellbeing and confidence and which is supported and utilised by a number of BP families.  The third charity, Forget me Not, is another local charity for Dementia.  It is seeking help to set up a resource centre providing a permanent base for services and activities for Dementia sufferers.

Any contribution you make will be doubled by BP and for UK taxpayers the charities will benefit from a further uplift through Gift Aid.  Please dig deep - your contribution will make a real difference.
