Charities
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and one man dies of it every hour in the UK. The Prostate Cancer Charity is the UK's leading charity working with people affected by prostate cancer. We are fighting prostate cancer on every front - by funding and encouraging research, providing support and information for diagnosed men, and their friends and family, and we campaign to improve the lives of men with prostate cancer. We provide the most comprehensive range of services of all the prostate cancer charities and offer the only UK-wide prostate cancer Helpline supported by specialist nurses who provide free and confidential information and support to anyone affected by prostate cancer. Your support could help save men's lives.
Mosaic is a Dorset wide charity offering a pathway of support for bereaved children, young people and their families. Mosaic also offers support for those young people facing the death of someone close. The service offers: Individual support Family group work Residential weekend programme Social activities Training for volunteers and professional working with bereaved children Our residential weekend programme gives children and young people the chance to meet others, share their experiences and express their emotions safely. During he weekends they take part in team building activities, make friends and spend time talking about the person who has died. The weekend closes with a short presentation to their parents and a balloons release by the families. These weekends and our ongoing costs are funded by charitable trust, community and individual donations and fundraising. We also hold our own fundraising events.
WaterAid is an international charity. Our mission is to overcome poverty by enabling the world’s poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. For a gift of just £15 WaterAid can enable one person in Africa or Asia access to these basic services.
The Wessex Autistic Society exists to help people with autism access good education, housing and services that in turn will help them to develop their social and communication skills, become more independent and lead fuller and more productive lives. The Society operates a residential/day school for children with autism from the ages of three to nineteen, residential and supported living services to adults; respite care to children and families; support groups for parents/carers/people with autism and an information and advice service. Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person relates to the world and other people around them. Autism affects 1 in 100 people. It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways. There is no know cure for autism. Some people with autism are able to live relatively interdependent lives whereas others may need a lifetime of specialist support. The main areas of difficulty are recognising and understanding other people’s feelings and managing their own, using and understanding verbal and non-verbal language, understanding and predicting other people’s intentions and behaviour and imagining situations outside of their own routine. People with autism may also experience over or under sensitivity to sounds, touch, taste, smells ,light or colours. We understand that everyone with autism is unique, as will be the support and services that they and those who are concerned for them require.
The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance is a REGISTERED CHARITY (No: 1078685) and a Company limited by Guarantee. The Charity was established in January 2000. The operational costs of our helicopter are £1.4m a year, that’s approximately £3,800 per day. We receive no funding from the Government or the National Lottery and rely almost entirely on the generosity of the public to ensure we keep flying. Since our launch we have attended literally thousands of life saving missions. On average we are deployed 3-4 times per day, however during the summer months this can increase up to 8 and we can be anywhere within the two counties in under 19 minutes of receiving an emergency call, making our service the ideal choice in life-threatening or time-critical situations.

Barry Light's fundraising page
Hello - and welcome to 'My Fundraising Page'. My name is Barry Light and during 2012-2013, I have set myself the challenge of running 60 marathons in 60 weeks. As well as the running I have a long term goal of raising over £60k for 6 Charities. It all kicked off with marathon No.1 which was on my 60th Birthday - Thursday 22nd December 2011. See Picture and to read all about it click here.
For more information check out my website at http://www.60in60at60.com Please support 'My Challenge' and donate whatever you can. A great way to sponsor me and to keep up to date on how I'm doing would be to donate £1.00 for every marathon completed. If you look at the 'My 60 Marathons Page' you will see the marathons I intend to run and my finishing time and blog will be posted here ASAP.
Your support will be really appreciated by me and all the charities involved.
Thank you.
Barry
