CLIC Sargent
CLIC Sargent helps children and young people with cancer and their families with the trauma of diagnosis, the often long journey through treatment and continues to support them afterwards. Every day 10 families are told that their child has cancer. Diagnosis often comes as a shock. Treatment usually starts straightaway and can last up to three years. CLIC Sargent is there with clinical, practical and emotional support, every step of the way.

LIC Sargent in Northern Ireland is delighted to have joined forces with the Belfast Telegraph to raise much needed funds for the Northern Ireland Homes from Home Appeal this Christmas.

Every week two children or young people in Northern Ireland are told the devastating news that they have cancer.

On average a family in Northern Ireland will make a round-trip of 95 miles, up to five times a week so that they can access the cancer treatment their child needs.

This puts a big financial strain on the family with the cost of travel and possibly temporary accommodation while their child is undergoing treatment.

Mary is from Ballykelly. Her son Michael was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010

"A Home from Home would have been a godsend for us. It would have saved us so much money and would have meant we could have stayed together over Christmas. Instead we had to pay the money for a hotel so that we could be close to Michael at an already expensive and stressful time."

However, good news is on its way for children and young people being treated for cancer in Northern Ireland. Our Northern Ireland Appeal will result in two new Homes from Home in Belfast, within walking distance of each hospital.

Your support will not only help to ease the burden on families, it will also help to support the services currently provided by CLIC Sargent for children and young people, and their families, in Northern Ireland.
