Charity

Teenage Cancer Trust
Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the six young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day. We build specialist units within NHS hospitals bringing young people together to be treated by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them. We want every young person with cancer to have access to this specialist support, no matter where they live. Traditionally treated alongside children or elderly patients at the end of their lives, young people can feel extremely isolated during treatment, some never meeting another young person with cancer. Being treated alongside others their own age can make a huge difference to their whole experience. Teenage Cancer Trust also educates young people and health professionals about cancer to ensure a swift diagnosis and referral to specialist support. Cancer in young people is rare but we want young people to know the common signs and symptoms so they can seek medical advice if they are worried. We rely solely on donations to fund our vital work. You can help transform the lives of young people with cancer. Visit www.teenagecancertrust.org to find out how.

Hallo,

Thanks for visiting my page.  I did it!  On 25th March I reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro at Uhuru Peak, 5895m high.  The photo shows me with Sunday on the left, who was my personal guide, and Charles, our main guide on the right.  The views from the top were stunning.  But there had been a very real chance that I was never going to reach even the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro as I sustained a trimalleolar fracture dislocation of my left ankle whilst training for this challenge only eight and a half weeks before summit day, (see my blog below for the grizzly details).

I am raising money to build new teenage cancer units in Nottingham.  Sadly, as is often the case, it takes a tragedy to motivate us to volunteer and help others.  I did this as part of a team from Nottingham Trauma and Orthopaedics for the Teenage Cancer Trust, as two staff members' daughters, Hannah Newham and Rebecca Foster, both died in 2008 aged 16 from rare cancers.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me or the team and all monies donated and raised will go directly to and be restricted for the Teenage Cancer Trust Nottingham Appeal to help provide services for teenagers and young people who have been diagnosed with cancer in the Nottinghamshire region.  Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim any gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Kind regards

Brigitte
