The Shackleton Foundation
The Shackleton Foundation celebrates the legacy of Sir Ernest Shackleton, the famous leader, adventurer and Antarctic explorer. Our mission is to bring about positive social change by investing in the people and the projects with the power to make a difference. We support entrepreneurial ideas, inspirational projects and budding leaders, who exemplify the indomitable spirit of Shackleton. We provide seed funding and support to enable aspiring leaders to establish their own ventures to help the disadvantaged and socially marginalised in society. We look for long-lasting, far-reaching projects with the potential to provide solutions to intractable social problems.

Cause4's Antarctic Challenge

My page:

The Shackleton Foundation was founded in 2007 by the descendants of Ernest Shackleton with the mission to support social entrepreneurs who exemplify the spirit of Shackleton: inspirational leaders with innovative and scalable ideas striving to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people.

2014 marks the centenary of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s famed trans-Antarctic Endurance mission. The Shackleton Foundation is celebrating Shackleton’s legacy of endurance and leadership by running the My Antarctic campaign.

The Shackleton Foundation believes that everyone has an ‘Antarctic’ – a personal challenge that they would love to achieve, but are afraid to try. The ‘My Antarctic’ campaign provides an exciting opportunity for people to take on a challenge they have always secretly wanted to do, whilst at the same time raising money for a great cause.

The Cause4 team will be taking on an Antarctic team challenge. The Cause4 team will dash around London to complete Shackleton’s Nimrod expedition. Given that the Nimrod expedition ran out of rations, the team will collect supplies, such as food, clothes and whisky, and take Shackleton the final 97.5 nautical miles (112.2 statute miles) to the South Pole.

The journey will start at the Shackleton statue at the Royal Geographical Society. Supplies will be picked up from original suppliers Burberry, Fortnum and Mason's and the Whisky Exchange. The final destination will be the ‘South Pole’ on the Great Map at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.

Every single penny that you donate will go towards funding a leader who will establish a project to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people.
