Charity
In 1983, whilst living in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim in Northern India, Joy started to care for small children whose mothers were having to work as labourers and had no possibility, at that time, of caring for their children themselves. When word spread of the work Joy was doing other destitute women starting bringing their babies to Joy. She took these children into her home, fed them, clothed them and began to educate them. This was the beginning of Joybells. Over 20 years Joybells, in Gangtok, grew to become a school for 400 with an orphanage for 50. In 2000 the decision was made for Joy to leave Gangtok, the remoteness of Sikkim making the everyday running of the school vitually impossible. Land was found near the city of Dehradun in the foothills of the Himalayas and the new Joybells was begun. The first of the new buildings has been opened and is home to over 60 children. Work is reaching completion on two of the main buildings that already provide accommodation for the children but will allow for more staff to be accommodated as well as a new medical wing. It has always been the case that children of all faiths have been welcomed by Joybells. Eventually there will be a home for about 200 children which will also be their primary school up to the age of 12. For their secondary education the children will go to other schools in the area. The orphanage will be home for the children throughout their schooling. Joy’s aim is to give the children in her care a Christian home and a really outstanding education.

Coast to Coast Walk 200 mile Walk
Hi, thanks for visiting my page. All the money I raise through this walk will go specifically to the much needed library I plan to establish at Joybells this October. Last year when I was out at Joybells I discovered just how much the children LOVE to read. Through the generous book donations from children at Kensington Prep School and St Agatha's RC Primary School I have about 2,500 books, ready to ship out to India. I now just need to raise money for shipping and basic set up costs and would HUGELY appreciate your support.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
Many thanks
Love Claire x
