Headway - the brain injury association
Headway - the brain injury association is the UK's leading charity working to improve life after brain injury. We provide support and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields. Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life - walking, talking, thinking and feeling - and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing the life you once lived and the person you once were. Brain injury is the foremost cause of death and disability in young people today. Headway campaigns nationally for the introduction of measures to reduce instances of brain injury.

Hi There and Thanks for coming,

As you probably already know my Dad died very suddenly and tragically in April 2010 due to a brain hemorrhage. This was incredibly traumatic and shook me, my sister and mum's world, but with the help and support of our wider family and friends we have managed to pull through and, although Dad is very much in our thoughts everyday, we have managed to carry on and hopefully make him proud.

Therefore, in an effort to turn something incredibly negative into something positive, I am running the 2012 London Marathon with the aim of raising a minimum of £1,500 sponsorship for Headway. Headway is a charity that looks after victims and families of brain injuries. Luckily we have not required their help but many people don’t have the same supportive family and friend network as us so hopefully by raising money I can help others who have gone through similar traumas that we have endured.

Other important things to note:

  • I did the 2008 marathon in 5 hours - my aim this year is 4 hours or less.
  • I am a lot less fit than 2008 and lazy.
  • Because of the above, I have hired a personal trainer to help me for the next 4 months.

Things you can do to help

  • Training tips
  • Help me cut down alcohol consumption
  • Calling me names until I do exercise
  • Give me ideas of events to help raise money
  • SPONSOR ME!!

Just a special mention to a couple of important helpers:

  • Will has agreed to make me go running with him when he goes (minimum twice a week)
  • Jassmine - Who will be running a charity event at her Mum’s hair & beauty salon, Blank Canvas.
  • You... for helping raise money

Thanks for your time

Dan
