Charities
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is an independent Charity which provides free 'home away from home' accommodation at specialist children's hospitals, enabling families to stay close to their child and maintain a degree of normal family life. There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK, supporting over 6,000 families each year.
Short Bowel Survivor & Friends are a children's Charity set up by parents/carers of children with the potentially life threatening condition Short Bwel Syndrome (SBS) Our Mission ist to provide support and advice to families who endure SBS through our website www.shortbowelsurvivor.co.uk where up-to-date reliable information is available for everyone to access. We also want to raise awareness of Short Bowel Syndrome throughout the UK making it an uncommon, but recognised condition. Through fundraising and public donation, our long term aim is to provide some financial support in the form of small grants where needed, to families with children suffering from SBS to provide for small items of equipment, materials or clothing and where necessary, help towards travel expenses for parents to visit their sick child in hospital especially where parents live some distance from the hospital. These small grants could make a big difference to families with small babies and children with SBS particularly those needing long term hospitalisation following major surgery. Children suffering with SBS need surgery immediately os soon after birth if they are to survive. They are fed intravenously through a catheter or central line which leaves them vunerable to serious line infections. These children will inevitably return for further surgery and treatment throughout their young lives.

Daniel Meadowcroft's fundraising page
Hi my name is Daniel Meadowcroft and I’m running the Great North Run on the 16th September for the Ronald McDonald House Manchester and the Short Bowel Survivor and Friends charity.
As well as my 5 year old son Cullen, myself and my partner Becky Deane have twin daughters Evie and Bella who were born 7 months ago. Evie was diagnosed with extreme short bowel syndrome when she was just a couple of weeks old, the doctors have told us that this is the most extreme condition that he has ever come across and that there is not another case like it in the world, but even through all of these bad times Evie has always remained a happy smiley little girl, which keeps us going daily.
Evie has now been in hospital permanently since the 4th January 2012 and since then Evie has had seven operations which means that we have all had a very stressful time trying to juggle Cullen, the twins, home, jobs and daily hospital visits. So staying at the Ronald McDonald House Manchester since the week that it opened in May has allowed us to stay together as a family and has allowed our identical twin girls to bond, it’s made life a little less stressful for us as we don’t have to travel and has given us a bit of normality and rest away from being stuck in the hospital day and night. We have also been able to make friends and share our issues with other parents that understand what we are going through and we have been able to have dinner as a family and with friends, watch TV, play with our children together - the normal things people take for granted that we have not been able to do until we were given accommodation at the Ronald McDonald House Manchester.
So I have decided to run the Great North Run in aid of these two worthy charities close to both mine and Becky's and the rest of my family’s heart, so please dig deep. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charities. Thank you in advance for all your support and donations.
