2010 Virgin London Marathon

25 April 2010

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall. Since the first race in 1981, 746,635 runners have passed the finish line and raised more than £400 million for charities and good causes. Last year alone a staggering £47.2 million was raised, making the event a Guinness World Record holder as the largest annual fundraising event on the planet.

Senses fundraising target for me is £1400 but I have chosen to aim for £2000, so any amount will really be appreciated.

Now a bit about me and why run a marathon!I have been running now for 2 years, I am married and have three children, and work and live on our family farm in Dorset. I have done a few half marathons and 10K events and really enjoy challenging myself, so this seemed a natural progression! I am not the fastest runner by any means but am very determined and looking forward to the challenge ahead.This to date will be one of the most challenging things I will have done, and I aim to finish under 5hrs, but if I meet my fundraising target and have a medal round my neck by the end of Sunday 25th April 2010, that will do just fine!
