Charities

Scope
Scope exists to make this country a better place for disabled people and their families. We do this by running a range of services, raising awareness of the issues that disabled people face and influencing change across society. We provide support, advice and information for more than a quarter of a million disabled people and their family members every year.
NSPCC
We’re the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. That’s why we help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.
Cancer Research UK
Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and survival has doubled over the past 40 years. We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer from the most common, such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers, to rare types of tumours and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
Oxfam
Oxfam GB is a leading international NGO with a worldwide reputation for excellence in the delivery of aid and development work. Our purpose is to work with others to overcome poverty and suffering. Oxfam GB is a member of Oxfam International.
Right To Play
Right To Play programmes aim to improve the lives of children affected by poverty, war and disease. We work closely with communities to set up sport and play programmes designed to teach important skills including leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, self-esteem, communication, commitment, respect and fair-play. The network and infrastructure we set up enable local communities to take ownership of the programmes, leaving a long lasting impact.

For my Gold Challenge, I'm taking on something that has never been done before - all 110 Olympic and Paralympic events that can be done by a single person! What a challenge!

The sports range from endurance events – triathlon, marathon, 10km open water swimming , and cycling ‘road race’ - to events where my dignity may be at risk - synchronised swimming , rhythmic gymnastics, wrestling - then on to some where I fear my body may be at risk - show jumping , 10m high dive  and  pole vault. You can follow my progress on Twitter, Facebook and my blog and see how I get on in some of these sports!

It is, by a long stretch, physically and mentally the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. However, it is for a great cause - five great causes in fact. I am raising money for five of Gold Challenge's charity partners: Cancer Research UK, Oxfam, Scope, Right to Play and the NSPCC.

If you'd like to take on one of the Gold Challenge's Olympic and Paralympic themed challenges such as the 2012km Challenge or the Olympic Sport Challenge then you can register for free at goldchallenge.org

Don't worry - you don't have to do all 110 events!

And by registering and taking part in the Gold Challenge, you could also win yourself a place in a 100m race in the Olympic Stadium in 2012! Visit our stadium page for some more details.

Please show your support for my challenge, and don't forget if you are a UK Tax Payer, please tick the Gift Aid to be added (for free!) to your donation!

Thank you!
