Charity
We exist to help improve the lives of people affected by cancer, both those living with cancer and also their families and carers. Our primary focus is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.
Please note Virgin Money Giving isn't responsible for the content fundraisers post on their pages, but if you see something you feel is offensive or inappropriate, please let us know and we'll look into it.
Dick, Pig, Peel & JP's Ride To Bournemouth
Cancer. It's pretty s**t to say the least.
It's worryingly accurate fact that one in three of us will get cancer, and it is one of the toughest things that most of us will ever face. If you have been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you'll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.
Macmillan Cancer Support provide practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. It's about making you feel as though you're not alone in the fight and creating an overwhelming community of support.
All of us on this charity event have experienced the effects of cancer and understand that although a cure for cancer would be great, it is not something that is going to happen in the near future. The support from Macmallin is pricless when it comes to helping people through what is a terrible time.
In 2008, around 309,500 people were diagnosed with cancer in the UK, that's give or take 850 people every day. All of these people will benefit from the support that Macmillan Cancer Support offer.
We all feel strongly this charity, and there is three goals that we have decided we want to achieve for the greater good of Macmillan Cancer Support.
- To raise awareness
- To raise money
- To inspire others to help raise the profile of Macmillan Cancer Support*
*This is most important!
The Mission
Me (Richard Golding), Nathaniel Carter, Chris Peel and Jack Pearson have decided to pursue the behemoth journey of cycling from Daventry to Bournemouth in just three days! That's about 140 miles. Easy? I don't think so!
To make things worse, me (Richard), Piggy (Nathaniel) and JP (Jack) have only recently got into the art of cardiovascular exercise! I would happily skive off of most physical activities, and Nathaniel's' nick name says it all about his childhood exercise routine.
Chris is pretty buff, and a bit of a sailor (if you know what I mean) so he's got some sort of a head start. There's also the small detail that he's quite a good cyclist anyway, and will probably do this as a warm up, before he goes "sailing".
We're all pretty out of shape, I can safely say that I'm a couple of pounds over weight, but we're set to prove that nothing is impossible. Our parents actually laughed at us when we said that we was going to do it. I don't blame them, I probably would have done the same.
People have, and will do more extraordinary things than this but for us, it is about encouraging people to stand up, show their colours and join arms in something they feel really strongly about. We want to make the people close to us proud, but most importantly we want to return the favour to Macmillan support them in doing what they do best .
Help us raise the profile for Macmillan Cancer Support us, follow our progress, let your friends know and maybe sponsor us!. We'll make it worth your while!
Thank you for reading, and we hope you can help support our goal.
Richard, Nathaniel, Chris & Jack
