Friends Of Urambo and Mwanhala (FUM)
The Friends of Urambo & Mwanhala (FUM) has been supporting rural villages in the Tabora region of Tanzania for over 50 years. Water is a significant and ongoing problem for much of Tabora Region, and climate change is making it worse. Good water is essential for good health and economic wellbeing. Deep boreholes are the only reliable source of water, each costing £12,000. Our Golden Jubilee Appeal aims to raise £50,000 initially to provide boreholes for our four most needy villages.

In 2014 I visited Urambo Folk Development College in the Tabora Region of Tanzania to exchange carpentry skills and deliver tools to contribute to their amazing vocational school and woodwork department. Although there are many aspects of Tanzania that are excellent sadly the availability of water is not one of them.

The lack of clean water really does affect the quality of life for many people in Tanzania. It's common that students' daily routines involve traveling for miles with buckets to collect their water. Having access to a pump will make life a little bit easier for a lot of people.

Running the marathon is going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done. I am not a seasoned runner and have generally avoided running..... Whilst the main objective is to raise as much money as I can for Urambo and Mwanhala, there is also my own personal challenge of running 26.219 miles. I am looking forward to the test! Hopefully the experience can be rewarding for myself and the people of Urambo and Mwanhala.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Donations will be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

Tom
