Charities
The Vision of the Society is to empower blind and partially sighted people to take a full and fulfilling role in society. We will champion their rights and aspirations to achieve full equality and to have control and choice of their life and lifestyle. The Society relies on donations in order to provide many of it's social and extra activities. The funding the Society receives from local Government is purely to meet the statutory requirements of local Government. All other activities have to be funded by the Society and we are grateful for the donations and legacies we receive which enable us to enhance our service to our clients. We receive no other funding to support these activities. Without the support of such kind donations and the efforts of our many volunteers, our activities would be very much restricted.
Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) - Forces Help is the national charity helping and supporting those who serve in the British Armed Forces, those who used to serve, and the families of both. One day’s paid service is all that is needed to qualify for our assistance. SSAFA Forces Help has been serving the Armed Forces and their families for almost 125 years and our work is as vital today as it has ever been. Our continually evolving support services are driven by the current needs of the Service community. They are particularly relevant in today's high pressure military environment, where our contemporary veterans and serving personnel alike often experience different problems from the soldiers, sailors and airmen of earlier conflicts. Reservists too, heavily engaged in current operations, have equal call on our services. From the provision of Health and Social services, to supporting the ex-Service community; from running a confidential support line, to delivering holidays for children with additional needs. We cover a very broad spectrum of issues as you will see on What we do or download our general factsheet. We try to bring our solutions to the widest audience possible - anybody whose life has been touched by time in the Armed Forces. If you have a Service connection, then we can offer our support. It is a matter of pride that we spread our net as widely as possible and we will always try to respond to cases of genuine need, whether they are financial, practical or emotional.

Dean Dunbar's fundraising page
Hi folks
As you know, my aim is to swim the English Channel sometime between the 8th ad 16th of August 2012. The final date will be decided by my pilot, by reading the tides, and hopefully picking the best day. Ideally when the current is flowing from Dover to Calais, at high speed. Then I can just lay on my back, and let the water do it's thing!! However, as this has never happened in the history of the world, I'm not counting on it.
For updates on my training, etc, please keep an eye on www.extremedreams.co.uk and follow the link to the English Channel page.
I also hope to do a few exciting training swims which will also appear on the above website.
I am raising funds for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Families Association), PKSB (Perth & Kinross Society for the Blind). All funds will be split 50/50 between these 2 charities.
Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
