Bansang Hospital Appeal
The object of the Bansang Hospital Appeal is to provide material, financial and in-kind support to Bansang Hospital and the people of the surrounding area. The projects focus area is the Upper River Division of The Gambia, West Africa. The hospital serves 500,000 people, many of whom travel from as far as Mali, Guinea and Senegal. The Bansang Hospital Appeal assists through the ongoing provision of medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, humanitarian aid, along with the sponsorship of staff and volunteers from the UK. The appeal has recently constructed a new 80 bed children’s unit, 48 bed female ward and the hospitals own maintenance team have constructed an obstetric theatre. Retention of staff is an urgent requirement and the key to the ongoing success of the hospital. We are addressing this urgent need in phases, with the current capital expenditure projects focussing upon the provision of decent staff accommodation. To this end, we have refurbished 27 staff units, along with the complete renovation of the old colonial house that sits on the hospital land. The latter facility now provides bedsitting and guest rooms for staff and visiting volunteers, as well as conferencing facilities for visiting professionals. The charity places a keen emphasis upon long-term project sustainability.

My page:

Scooters in the Sahara ( is a group of like minded individuals who will ride 4,000 miles to the Gambia from the UK, donating the Honda C90 scooters that they ride to the Bansang Hospital in the Gambia to be used in the field to help the local population.  The next scoots will leave on 18th October 2013  to ride the 3 week journey, travelling through Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal and then into The Gambia, 4000 Miles, 7 Countries, 1 War Zone, 1 Mine Field….

All the bikes, lots of new spare parts and many personal belongings like mosquito nets and clothing and crash helmets which are purchased by the riders are donated to the hospital on arrival.  In addition The Scoots Project raises funds to support the purchase of equipment, with ongoing education of staff and other sustainable projects. Any funds not used in this way are passed directly to the Bansang Hospital Appeal. This very worthy hospital is always in need of funds.
