Scottish Refugee Council - Our vision is for a Scotland in which all people seeking refugee protection are welcome. Women, children and men are protected, find safety and support, have their human rights and dignity respected and are able to achieve their full potential. Scottish Refugee Council was founded in 1985 to provide advice and assistance to people seeking protection in Scotland under the terms of Article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees. Scottish Refugee Council is now a significant national organisation based in Glasgow where we deliver direct services to thousands of refugees and asylum seekers. We also work in partnership with a wide range of voluntary and statutory organisations across the country, building their capacity to deliver appropriate services to asylum seekers and refugees through joint programmes of work. Importantly we also provide specialist information, training and support to other organisations. We develop evidence-based policy and ensure this is considered by decision-makers at all levels. Our Mission is to: 1. Increase public understanding of refugees and campaign for an end to discrimination, racism and prejudice 2. Advocate for the rights of refugees and people seeking asylum and for fair and just legislation and policies 3. Support refugees’ integration and inclusion ensuring refugee voices are heeded 4. Ensure that refugees and people seeking asylum have access to quality advice services, information and support 5. Develop an efficient organisation which supports staff and volunteers and ensures quality and value for money

2012 Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run 10k & Half Marathon

02 September 2012

Scotland’s largest mass participation sporting event. The race takes place in the cosmopolitan city of Glasgow. It is renowned for its fast course, atmosphere and scenic route through some of Glasgow’s beauty spots. Starting in the heart of Glasgow at George Square, participants cross the famous Kingston Bridge and pass through some of Glasgow's most famous attractions before finishing at Glasgow Green, the city's oldest park on the banks of the Clyde. The Great Scottish Run has something for everyone, whether you’re a half marathon veteran or setting out on your very first race, you can walk, jog or run so why not join our team in 2012?

On Sunday the 2nd of September I will be running the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon in Glasgow.  This will be the four consecutive year I have participated and this year I have decided to raise some money for charity.  I have chosen the Scottish Refugee Council - please click on the logo on the left of this page for details of their work.  

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Scottish Refugee Council. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on the charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
