The Lisa May Foundation
Helping people in Surrey Heath and across the globe. The Lisa May Foundation supports selected local charities in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire, at the same time raising funds for victims of natural disaster across the world. The charity was founded after Surrey Heath Councillor John May lost his daughter Lisa to the tsunami that devastated Thailand on Boxing Day 2004. Surrey Heath Councillor and successful businessman John May raised his five adored children to live life to the full. When one of his daughters announced her intention to marry in Thailand, John and his youngest daughter Lisa accompanied her to celebrate the special event. After the wedding, Lisa decided to extend her stay on the island of Phi Phi and, tragically, became one of the thousands of victims who lost their lives in the tsunami that devastated Thailand on Boxing Day 2004. In response to their sense of deep personal loss, the May family decided to celebrate Lisa’s memory by forming the Lisa May Foundation, to raise money to help victims of natural disasters. The May family motto is Fortitudo, Amicitia et Famila which translated means, Courage, Friendship and Family. In 2010, as Mayor of Surrey Heath, John saw that local charities had a huge need for support and decided to re-launch the Foundation as an umbrella organisation helping specific local charities, as well as continuing to raise funds for victims of natural disaster.

Earthquake Appeal Nepal

Kapil Rijal

My page:

On 25 April 2015, Nepal suffered a horrific tragedy and the death toll and destruction is evidence enough to make us realise people need our help.

Over 8,500 people have already died and many others are injured. Some people are missing, even now.

Please donate what you can and help us get aid to those who still need it.

On 14 July 2015, we released a video looking back at the incredible work we have been able to do in Nepal thanks to all who have donated.

Immediate aid is so important and so too is the structured ongoing support to rebuild lives and homes.

Thanks to your generous donations we have completed phase 1 and 2 of the project.

  • Phase 1 provided immediate medical assistance and emergency supplies.
  • Phase 2 is built new shelter homes to protect those from the monsoon season. Each house costs just £150.
  • Phase 3 is to provide seven new school halls which includes fresh running water and toilet facilities, along with education boxes containing vital school supplies.

The Lisa May Foundation was set up the immediate aftermath of the Boxing Day Tsumani and has since continued to supply disaster relief aid to other countries.

Give what you can safe in the knowledge that we will deliver the funds direct to source and really make a difference.

On behalf of the Rijal family, the Lisa May Foundation and the people of Nepal, thank you.
