Tartan Army Children's Charity
Our aim is to help disadvantaged children in Scotland and in countries that we visit whilst supporting Scotland’s national football team. Away On our trips abroad we make cash donations and other gifts to childrens institutions, orphanages, hospitals, special needs schools, or individual children in those countries according to their needs. Cash donations buy items such as clothes, shoes, blankets, beds, educational equipment, medical equipment etc, or help fund projects or repairs. We always make sure that the donations are used in a tangible way rather than swallowed up in admin costs. In Georgia for instance we donated an incubator which has already saved lives in a premature baby unit which had an appallingly high mortality rate. We also like to throw a party for the children, with a pipe band and food and drink to make this a real treat. In fact the feedback we get is that the party can be more important than our donations, just the fact that we want to take the time to be with the children. Home We support disadvantaged children in Scotland with our My First Scotland Match programme, taking children to Hampden for their first experience of watching their national side. Such a treat is generally out of reach of the children invited and the project acknowledges that not every child is lucky enough to have someone who will take them to their first match. We also organise a Christmas Present Appeal with Scotland supporters each year for Aberlour Child Car Trust. In 2010 we will also be launching several local initiatives to help tackle child poverty and neglect in Scotland.

Hi, thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to TACC. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Our training started late Feb with a couple of evening daunders down to the bottom of the hill and back up.

27th Feb. Real training started with a 8.5 mile (the fractions are very important) jaunt to Markinch through Balbirnie Park and along the old railway line that went to TR and home via Forresters Lodge. Brought back childhood memories of walking along the railway line to Auburn Park when the line was in use !!

5th March. Had to employ some bribery tactics with lunch at Lundie Golf Club, before walking along the Fife Coastal Path to Pittenweem. 13.6 miles. Bus back to Lundin Links, cost £3.50 !! Must be supporting all those people eligible for free bus passes. Walk goes past Dunbarnie Links, another scene of childhood trips to the beach. Did I really swim in the Forth !! This was in the days before the Levenmouth Water Treatment works was built. Make no wonder I seem to be immune to most diseases !!

14th March Like most serious athletes we decided to do some training in the sun. With snow falling in Fife, we headed down to Hertfordshire, and did a 4 mile ish walk around Harpenden. Sun was splitting the sky and we treated ourselfs to a drink in the Engineers beer garden. (Busmans holiday for Aly)

19th March. The BIG one. Plan was to do 18 miles, but a small mis-calculation meant we did 23.1 miles. Bit of a large jump, and both struggled to do the last few miles with various aches and pains, started at the house and walked across the white bridge, down to Southfield, past Stenton to Thornton, across the road bridge to Mitchelston Industrial Estate, Kirkcaldy, down to Dysart for a spot of lunch at the Harbour Cafe (Finest soup we'd tasted all day !!) Picked up another part of the Coastal Path to West Wemyss, up to Coaltown of Wemyss and along Mary's walk to Coaltown of Balgonie. So called after Mary Queen of Scots used to go from Wemyss  to Falkland. I'm sure she didn't walk !! We stopped to see Balgonie Scotia score a goal whilst we took in some energy giving fruit salad !! Not very tartan army I hear you say !! Was the pub shut ? Worst thing we did was to look at the mileometer as we knew we had 4 or 5 miles to go to get home. The steps at the bottom of Balgeddie House were a bit of a killer and we moaned everytime we had to step on and off kerbs. Much comparing of aches was done that evening and wondering if we will be able to drive back from Glasgow after the event !!

27th March. Taking it easy as a famous American Rock Band once sang. 8.4 miles, did same route as 27th Feb, weather was a bit nicer and met a few people on the way. Reason the walk wasn't a wee bit longer wiz due to Aly curling at Kinross at midday. (Played a part in Ronnie Wilson's team lifting the Coull Medal)

1st April. Elaine has finally bought a kilt - Pictures will be posted after the walk. Can you wait??

3rd April. Final weekend big push did 27 miles !! 25 of those were in the car, well we need to practice driving too and from Hampden ! The warm up walk went round Balbirine with new training partners, Elaine's Mum & Dad. Some of the Rhoddies are in bloom so worth a look. Next it was off the Deer Park to combine training with feeding deer ! Helpfully the Park has an extra loop to take in a scenic view, not sure what the scene we were viewing ? Point of caution, only feed the red deer if you want slobbered all over !!

Not long now, we ARE ready. Honest....

10th April - Story to follow. Yahoo MADE IT.
