Thanks for visiting my page! On Sunday 23rd April I will be hitting the streets of my beloved London to run the marathon for Breast Cancer Now.

Here’s why:

As many of you know all too well, breast cancer is the thorn in my family's side. Since 2013 it has lumbered me with 7 operations, 11 months of chemo, some fierce radiation burns, not to mention a lot of really bad hair days. It’s also required me to spend an unacceptable amount of time indoors, sitting on my bum, waiting to feel better.

Now I do feel better, and it’s time to reclaim the fitness that breast cancer took. 260+ miles running in the fresh air, plus an excuse to eat as much pasta as I like feels like a great place to start…

More and most importantly I am fit and able to do this now because someone else ran the hard miles and raised the money in the past. I am the beneficiary of lifesaving research.

Please help me pay that forward by raising loads of money to help discover the treatments of tomorrow.

Here’s where the money goes:

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. 1 woman receives a diagnosis every 10 minutes; 1000 women have their lives cut short every month.
  • Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest breast cancer charity, dedicated to funding groundbreaking research.
  • Every £25 raised pays for 1 hour of cutting edge research into why breast cancer develops, how it spreads, and how it can be successfully overcome.

Here’s why that’s awesome:

By 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer could live. Research now is going to make that dream a reality.

Here’s my ask of you:

The last 3.5 years have been one almighty team effort - I have been so very grateful for your unfailing support during the mega-marathon of treatment. Now I need your help to get me all the way to Buckingham Palace when my body is screaming at me to stop!

  1. Help me smash it – if together we can reach my pledge of £2000 we’ll be raising £76 and 3 hours of lifesaving research per mile. That’s all the incentive I need to run/walk/crawl to the finish. Let’s smash it – and help smash this stinking disease into smithereens!
  2. Sing me a song – suggest a song for my playlist, and I’ll channel your energy and support as I listen to it on my way round (no slow-smoochers please – I need to finish before they close the course!)
  3. Join the cheerleading squad – let me know if you're planning on spectating and I’ll let you know when to wave your pompoms.

Let’s make it interesting:

As a little incentive, by sponsoring me you can enter the sweepstake to guess my time. Just post your guess together with your donation (and your motivational song), and the winner will receive a magnum of champagne.

A few clues:

  • My one and only previous marathon took 4 hours and 45 minutes.
  • That was when I was 28.
  • I am now 36.
  • I have had a few physical issues (!) in the interim.
  • My last half marathon was in 2015. It took 2 hours 15 minutes.
  • My last 5km park run was before I started training. It took 27.5 minutes.
  • I am training with a coach who has set me a ‘stretch target’.
  • I like targets.
  • I am physically unsuited to running – wobbly knees, tingly toes, and chemo-weakened bones are just a few of my special features.
  • I am northern. Grit is my middle name...

It just remains for me to say:

On behalf of me, and all the women in the BC sisterhood, a big and heartfelt THANK YOU!

With bucket loads of gratitude for all your support,

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.
