Children's Heartbeat Trust
The Children's Heartbeat Trust provides practical and emotional support to parents and families of children with heart disease in Northern Ireland. Heart disease is now the most common problem at birth in Northern Ireland. Over 200 children a year are born with heart disease. One third of these children will require further investigation and/ or surgery. The Children’s Heartbeat Trust works closely with the Clark Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children to help fund top quality medical equipment and initiatives, to ensure that children with heart disease in Northern Ireland receive the best care and treatment possible. The Children’s Heartbeat Trust is a local charity, funded solely from public donations. We provide support in a number of ways including; - Financial support for Clark Clinic - Family Support Groups throughout Northern Ireland - Parent accommodation at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children - Parent support and information networks - Research into heart disease in children Your support will help change the lives of children with heart disease in Northern Ireland.

Fighting Chance was set up by a group of friends after the sudden death of 13 month old Cody Stephen Gallagher, son of Judith and Stephen Gallagher. Cody passed away in December 2009 after spending most of his young life fighting cardiomyopathy.

The Children's Heartbeat Trust and the Clarke Clinic at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children provided critical care during Cody's short life. The main aim of the Fighting Chance group is to raise much needed funds for both the Children's Heartbeat Trust and Clarke Clinic through a number of different and exciting fundraising opportunities.

In the continued effort for raising much needed funding for Children's Heartbeat Trust, a number of Fighting Chance members will be attempting to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in October 2010.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, raising 5895m (over 19,000 ft) from sea level. More importantly, it is the largest "free standing" mountain in the world. Unlike other mountains which are part of a mountain range, Kilimanjaro is on a flat plane.

Like all Fighting Chance fundraising events, the entire range of training and equipment, flights, expedition, visas, medical expenses are 100% self funded. This means all money which is donated will be given DIRECTLY to Heartbeat NI.

Please join the group "Fighting Chance" on Facebook to follow our future fundraising events and for more information on the group.

Please give generously and leave a message of support for the climbers.

Many, many thanks

Fighting Chance
