Micro And Anophthalmic Childrens Society - MACS (www.macs.org.uk) was formed in 1993, by a group of parents, all of whom had children with microphthalmia (small formed eyes), anophthalmia (no eyes) and coloboma (sight problems). Until then, most of them didn't know of any other children like their own and children with these conditions did not have the opportunity to meet each other, support each other and learn from each other. MACS is helping to change all that. MACS is a Registered Charity in the UK and is run by volunteer parents with children who have the eye conditions, and by young people who are directly affected. None of the committee receives any form of payment for the role and only claim the costs of minor admin requirements. Mutual support, from people who know what you are experiencing, either as a parent or young person, is something that we passionately believe in. That is why the charity is run entirely by volunteers who understand what is needed. We have come a long way since our humble beginnings back in 1993, but know that here is still a lot more to be done, if we are to achieve better understanding of the eye conditions, to fully support those affected by these conditions and for their families, and to improve opportunities for people with Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia, Coloboma and related eye conditions. The committee are very dedicated and have lots of ideas for the future to make these aims realities. Without funding these goals cannot be achieved.

2012 Virgin London Marathon

The Virgin London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall.

Firstly I would like to say "Hello" and to thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

 

Well it is now April 2012... not long until the London marathon.

I am back from a very tough Himalayas trek and now back into training for London. Not long now........ Please dig deep and sponsor me... every penny is really appreciated by this incredibly worthwhile charity.

FUNDRAISING UPDATE: I AM NOW RUNNING A SWEEPSTAKE ON THIS PAGE. WHEN YOU MAKE A DONATION, LEAVE A COMMENT SAYING WHAT YOU THINK MY FINISHING TIME IS GOING TO BE IN THE LONDON MARATHON. THE CLOSEST GUESS TO MY ACTUAL TIME WILL WIN A £50 VOUCHER FOR MARKS AND SPENCER

Through the first few months of 2012 I have some challenges coming up:

March 2012: Everest Base Camp trek - trekking through the Himalayas to Everest Base Camp - this will definitely be a tough challenge.

and then when I get back to the UK.....

London Marathon 2012. 26.2 miles over one of the most iconic courses in the world - I am aiming to finish in under 4 hours 30 - a personal best for me.

Training so far has included: Long hill walks every day, 2-3 weights sessions a week, intervals and tabata sessions and of course, the long, slow runs every week.

I am fundraising for MACS - a charity that helps children and adults who are born with Micropthalmia and Anopthalmia. Microphthalmia is a disorder in which one or both eyes are abnormally small, while Anopthalmia is the absence of one or both eyes. MACS helps both the children - who often need operations through their childhood - and their families in so many wonderful ways.
