Charity

Wooden Spoon Society
Wooden Spoon is a grant making charity founded in 1983. Since then we have been committed to providing vital funds to organisations such as specialist schools, other charities and community projects that provide support, treatment or respite care for children with disabling or life-limiting medical conditions or living in areas of severe social deprivation. Wooden Spoon harnesses the spirit and values of rugby to give these children and young people a chance to live happy fulfilled lives regardless of the challenges they may face. We rely on the generosity of our supporters and volunteers with every single penny raised staying in the local community helping the lives of local children. This support enables us to continue to be one of the largest UK funders of respite and medical treatment centres, sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds, sports activity areas and community-based programmes. Thank you for helping us continue stirring smiles on the faces of thousands of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Hi, thanks for visiting my page. The Wooden Spoon Society is very close to my heart for a number of reasons and I have supported it for nearly 10 years by taking part in the Four Peaks Challenge both as a competitor and more recently as an event marshall. I have also done numerous fundraisng events for them and taken part in a £10k run. For my 10th year, I wanted to do something that would both raise money for this amazing charity and at the same time challenge me and get me fit... So I bought a road bike and decided to "give it a go"! I have been mountain biking since I was a kid but this is a totally new challenge for me and I have to say that getting myself fit and managing 120 miles a day for several days seems a long way off right now... but I am committed... the diet and fitness drive has begun and I am starting my challenge with a 10K run in November to kick start my fundraising!

So... thanks for taking time to read this, and I hope that you will sponsor me... this is a HUGE thing for me and I am doing it to support the wonderfull work that Spoon do for disabled and disadvantaged kids accross the UK... its a truley special charity.

Thanks a million

Gaz
