"Wow.. What a journey!"

24th September 2013, 0315 in the morning I hit the water.. and started to swim. 13 hours and 53 minutes later, I crawled onto the beach in France. A sandy, gently shelving 'plage' with a beautifully striking back drop of white chalky cliffs.

I have done it! I have 'joined the club'. I am an English Channel Swimmer.

It has been a journey. And I am humbled by your support, well wishes, and following. I have been truly moved, by my support team whom guided and shielded me as if 'my life' was their very own. This would not have been possible without these unique friends and experts, not to mention 'Reg and Ray' Brickell aboard 'The Viking Princess', the 'pilots', for this amazing voyage.

Jus6 months to go...
'My Everest' approaches and I am ramping up for the final assault! I am due to swim the English Channel in September 2013. 21.5 Miles.. in a straight line.. not including the two big tides that I will encounter.. Oooo and the possible jellyfish, some of the largest ships that I have ever seen, a sea temperature of hopefully 16-18C, possibly a few waves and a total of up to 30-35miles of actual swimming!
"What on earth am I doing??"
The challenge of a life time. More people have succeeded in summiting Mt Everest than completing an English Channel swim! Most fail in the very last mile to the French coast due to tidal conditions, fatigue and cold.
I am doing this swim because it has been an everlasting dream of mine. And to celebrate this I am going to ask you and all of your friends to help match my personal commitment of £6000 to date by raising money for one of the most important charities of our time: Free The Children.
Free The Children believe that young people have the power to change the world. And they are so right. Youth can break barriers that would otherwise prevent them from achieving their fullest potential.
"to achieve their fullest potential as agents of change"
Free The Children is a high impact and innovative charity. The program is designed to achieve tangible results with a lasting impact on the youth and thus our future. I believe that youth can be the greatest problem solvers. Let 'them', the children, make the world a better place..... Support me and donate now.
Thank you for your very kind donations.. help me beat my £6000 target!!
Best wishes GaryYikes.. Just 3 weeks to go!

My final assault was brutal, fighting the last of the spring tides as many of you will have seen from the tracker.. paralleling the French coast for quite some time.. 3 hours and 53 minutes to be precise!!!

'Reg' emerged from the wheel house with 4 hours to go... "Now dig in and fight for your life" turned on his heels and returned. I had to sprint (all relative) for these four hours to break free of easterly Ebb tide and make it into shore.

I was stung once during the day by one of the two 'jellies' that we saw and yes we did see some of the largest ships on the seas. The sea temperature behaved at 16.5C with sea conditions stated as chopy and I managed to swim a total of 30miles!

The challenge of a life time. More people have succeeded in summiting Mt Everest than completing an English Channel swim! Most fail in the very last mile or so, within sight of the French coast due to tidal conditions.. which I can now confirm are immense.

I did this swim because it has been an everlasting dream of mine. And we/you have celebrate this by raising more than £8500 in the UK, £150 in France and £350 in America.... giving us a GRAND TOTAL thus far of £10,350.. All for Free The Children. Thank you so much.

Thank you for your very kind donations.. We beat my £6000 target!! I am humbled knowing that you gave so much towards this charity and moved more than you will know from your support.

Best wishes

Gary
