Charities

Yorkshire Air Ambulance
Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent Charity needing to raise £7,200 per day to keep both of Yorkshire’s air ambulances in the air and maintained. This is equivalent to £2.65million each year. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance provides a life saving rapid response emergency service to 5 million people across 4 million acres of Yorkshire. We operate two helicopters, G-SASH and G-CEMS from Leeds Bradford International Airport and Sheffield Business Park The service is operational 365 days a year. Patients are transferred to the most relevant treatment centre, flying at speeds of up to 160mph. The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was the first air ambulance in the UK to own and operate a dedicated air desk for dispatch of the helicopters Since coming online in 2000, over 3000 patients have been carried to relevant treatment centres.
Heart Research UK
At Heart Research UK we fund medical research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. Around two million people in the UK are living with heart disease. However, thanks to improved treatment and techniques funded by Heart Research UK, more people are surviving and living happier, healthier, longer lives. In 2007, we celebrated our 40th anniversary and over the last four decades we have funded many pioneering projects at the cutting edge of science. We paid for six of the eight first successful UK heart transplants, carried out by Sir Terence English at Papworth Hospital. Life saving technology that we now take for granted, such as heart valves, angioplasty and more recently, amazing artificial heart pumps, would not have been developed without our help. We would prefer for there to be no heart problems in the first place so we promote the benefits of living a healthy heart lifestyle. Our Healthy Heart grants, school and community talks and Healthy Heart workplace schemes reach communities and give them the knowledge and advice they need to take care of their heart health. Heart Research UK - Pioneers in the fight against heart disease
Yorkshire Cancer Research
Yorkshire Cancer Research is a registered charity that funds research, principally in Yorkshire, into the causes and cures of cancer. We do this by fundraising in Yorkshire and providing awards to Yorkshire based academic institutions. Through publishing and sharing the results of this research with the world's scientific community, Yorkshire Cancer Research hopes to develop more effective treatments for cancer sufferers world-wide. Yorkshire Cancer Research raises its money in Yorkshire and spends it in Yorkshire at its five centres of excellence based at the universities of Bradford, Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and York and their associated teaching hospitals. We are the most successful regional medical research charity in the UK and we fund internationally recognised research, which focuses on a variety of cancers including: breast, bowel, cervical, non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, ovarian, prostate, skin, and genetics of cancers. We are not a regional division of a national charity we are an independent charity, based and operating in Yorkshire only. We are still, however, at the very forefront of the international fight to find a cure for cancer. We’re working for a world without cancer Your support is crucial in helping us fund vital research.
Jane Tomlinson Appeal
Jane's Appeal was established by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE to raise funds for children's and cancer charities nationwide. To date over £3million has been raised and Jane's family led by Mike Tomlinson is determined to continue the great work started by Jane and work towards the charities next target of £5million. Jane was determined to help others and we at Jane Tomlinson Appeal are committed to keeping her inspirational leadership and determination alive for the benefit of others. www.janetomlinsonappeal.com
The Candlelighters Trust
Yorkshire's pre-eminent childhood cancer charity supporting children, teenagers and their families. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, lives are turned upside down in an instrant. Not just for the child but for their parents, siblings and family friends. Priorities change and everyday concerns sudddenly seem trivial. Getting well again can be a long and challenging journey, physically emotionally and even financially. Helping and supporting those children and their families throughout that journey is why Candlelighters was formed more than 40 years ago and it is why we are still here today. The charity was founded and is still run by parents of children who have or have had cancer or leukaemia and the medical staff who treat them. This means that we understand the trauma and the turmoil of that diagnosis and how the support and care needed may differ from family to family. Whether it be through the support of our friendly staff and experienced counsellors, that "home away from home" environment we nurture on the ward in Leeds, or the vital research into new treatments, we are here to help. go to www.candlelighters.org.uk

Geoff Major -Yorkshire & Humberside charities

Fundraiser:
Geoff Major BlueDucks Limited

My page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GeoffMajorYorkshire

Hi, and welcome to my fundraising page.

This page is for Yorkshire & Humberside-based charities whereas my other page (http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/GeoffMajorNational) is for UK charities with dedicated local co-ordinators.

If you would prefer to donate to just one or a handful of the 10 charities I'm fundraising for, please send a cheque made payable to 'Geoff Major Polar Trek' to the address below stating how you would like your money to be allocated.

North Pole Trek, c/o BlueDucks Limited

Round Foundry Media Centre, Foundry Street, Leeds LS11 5QP

The cheque will be deposited with Barclays Corporate through the client account facility Bartfields Accountants have; Bartfields will oversee the legitimacy and transparency of the monies in and out of the account so you can be assured all your donation will go to the appropriate charity or charities.

I've used Virgin because they offer a better deal for charity. For every £10 donated (with Gift Aid) the charity will get £12.47 because Virgin only take 2% to cover their not-for-profit costs whereas another well-known donations site takes 5%.

So what are you waiting for? And thank you from me and the charities, as well as the real beneficiaries. Oh and if you donate direct, PLEASE add a message to say it is in response to my North Pole trek, so I can keep the running total up to date.

Thank you.
