Alzheimer's Research UK
Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity. As research experts, we specialise in funding world-class, pioneering research at leading universities to find preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia. We believe science and innovation hold the key to defeating dementia and invest in the scientists learning more about the condition and its causes. Our findings improve the lives of everyone affected by dementia now and in the future. We forge partnerships with Government and other key organisations to make dementia research a national priority. We encourage everyone to join us in supporting research and achieving a world free from dementia.
YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional well being and mental health of children and young people. Driven by young people’s experiences we campaign, research and influence policy and practice. We also provide expert knowledge to professionals, parents and young people through our Parents Helpline, online resources, training and development, outreach work and publications. George Cycles A Long Way

George Mirams

My page:

On 3rd May I cycled 100 and a bit topsy-turvy miles around the Leicestershire countryside with the aim of raising £500, to be split between Alzheimer's Research UK and YoungMinds. Thanks to all you lovely people I am proud to say we have managed to raise over double that amount!

I was originally aiming to complete the course in under 7 hours and on the day managed it in 5 hours and 50 minutes, which I am pretty chuffed with! I really couldn't have asked for a better day for it - all those weekend mornings battling the wind and rain were certainly worth it.

I will continue to collect money on this page for a few weeks as I know there are still people intending to donate.

A little more on the charities I am raising money for:

YoungMinds is a charity dedicated to improving young people's emotional wellbeing and mental health. They help young people and parents affected, train professionals and campaign to remove the stigma attached to mental health issues. Their work is increasingly important considering the government is looking to make cuts in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Alzheimer's Research UK is the leading dementia research charity in the UK, specialising in finding preventions, causes, treatments and one day perhaps, a cure. Alzheimer's and dementia are incredibly cruel diseases, affecting over 800,000 people in the UK yet investment in research is woeful. For more information follow this link:

Thank you so much to all those who have already donated and any of you who are planning to donate.
