Christopher’s Smile was set up in October 2008 by Karen and Kevin Capel following the tragic death of their only son Christopher from medulloblastoma, an aggressive childhood brain tumour. Supporting UK research centres such as the Institute of Cancer Research, Christopher ’s Smile aims to raise money to fund development of new drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects. These drugs will provide an effective cure for all and save the lives of the 25% of children who currently do not survive their disease. "Our vision is for every child diagnosed with childhood cancer to not only survive, but to reach adulthood enjoying a good quality of life."

Five friends and I, all amateur cyclists, will attempt to cycle from Edinburgh to London - a distance of well over 400 miles - in just 3 days from Sept 2nd to Sept 4th. The longest day’s ride will be over 160 miles; in comparison, the longest stage of the ‘Tour de France’ is 120 miles.
We are training hard in order to raise funds for cancer research. Personally, I have chosen to support “Christopher's Smile”, a UK registered charity, funding research into childhood cancers (http://www.christopherssmile.org.uk/).
Christopher, after whom the charity is named, was my daughter's classmate. He was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of 4. After battling with the illness for 21 months he passed away nine days before his 6th birthday. Following the tragic death of their only child, Christopher's parents have set up Christopher's Smile, a UK registered charity aimed at finding new and effective cancer treatments for children who deserve to win their battles and have a chance at life.
The charity’s trustees fund all administration costs and work voluntarily, ensuring that 100% of your donation goes to the good cause. I hope you will feel motivated to support my efforts. My employer will match the money I will raise, hopefully an additional incentive for you to give generously for this worthy cause.
