Teenage Cancer Trust
Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for the seven young people aged between 13 and 24 diagnosed with cancer every day. We build specialist units within NHS hospitals bringing young people together to be treated by teenage cancer experts in a place designed just for them. We want every young person with cancer to have access to this specialist support, no matter where they live. Traditionally treated alongside children or elderly patients at the end of their lives, young people can feel extremely isolated during treatment, some never meeting another young person with cancer. Being treated alongside others their own age can make a huge difference to their whole experience. Teenage Cancer Trust also educates young people and health professionals about cancer to ensure a swift diagnosis and referral to specialist support. Cancer in young people is rare but we want young people to know the common signs and symptoms so they can seek medical advice if they are worried. We rely solely on donations to fund our vital work. You can help transform the lives of young people with cancer. Visit to find out how.

My page:

Hello, and thank you for visiting my page.

Many of you will already know exactly why I'm taking on the London Marathon in 2017. For those who don't know, it's because over the past few years, I have been deeply inspired by one of our students, Emily Mackay.

Emily was diagnosed with cancer shortly after she joined East Kent College, battling it until she passed away in June this year. Throughout that whole time she heroically remained part of our College community, attending lectures wherever possible, and progressing her training as a young chef. To find out more about Emily in her own words, you can read her blog here.

During her fight with cancer, she was supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust becoming an ambassador for the charity, and working to promote it at every opportunity. When I was lucky enough to present her with the Principal's Award for Excellence in 2015, I promised her I would run the London Marathon for the charity. I found out recently that I had been selected to run 2017's marathon on behalf of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

I'm honoured to be running on behalf of this charity, and for such an inspirational student. I truly have been #inspiredbyEmily, and I hope you will give generously to this valuable charity.

I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations. If you'd like to follow my journey, you can read my blog here and I will be using the hashtag #inspiredbyEmily on Twitter.

Thank you
