Cardiac Risk In The Young - Every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed cardiac conditions. Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) aims to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD) by working with cardiologists and family doctors to establish good practice and appropriate screening facilities to promote and protect the cardiac health of our young. 2010 Great North Swim

04 September 2010

The premier outdoor swim event in the UK. Inspiration of the British Gas Great Swim series. Voted 5th top open-water swim in the world (2008.) A one-mile outdoor swim in beautiful Windermere, Cumbria. In 2009, an impressive 6,000 swimmers took part over two days. Open to swimmers of all abilities. See some of the world’s top swimmers compete against one another, across the same one mile course as the masses, in the elite race. Highlights shown on TV. £35 to enter- includes your entry fee, event pack (Great Swim swim hat to keep and timing chip), Great Swim souvenir medal and t-shirt, not to mention the huge sense of achievement. Limited places-don’t be left on the watersedge enter early to avoid disappointment.

THE GREAT SALFORD SWIM IS AN OPEN WATER SWIM WHICH COVERS THE SAME 1 MILE DISTANCE IN SALFORD QUAYS. Hello Folks! Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

This year I am taking part in the Great North Swim to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a fantastic charity which does excellent work and deserves tremendous support. It is truly an honour to be representing and raising money for such a remarkable charity.

CRY was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD); Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS, SADS). To read more about CRY please visit their webite at www.c-r-y.org.uk/

The journey has been long. My training for this event began in July 2009. At the time I could only manage about 4 lengths in a 25 metre pool before becoming breathless and stopping swimming. One year later, after many swim training sessions and lots of fitness work in the gym, I will be swimming 1 mile (the equivalent of 64 lengths!) across Lake Windermere in some very cold, choppy and unpredictable waters! It has certainly been a challenge!

My goal now is to raise as much as I can for CRY so please folks sponsor me today and share in my success. Give as much as you can, no matter how small the amount and know that you are making a difference to so many lives!
