After much deliberation and debate the final plan for the great Armed Forces Day Charity Challenge is……

THE HMS MIDDLETON CHOKE POINT CHALLENGE!

This is a triathlon event of running, rowing and cycling within the Gym at the NSA Bahrain covering the total distance travelled through all choke points whilst on passage to Bahrain; 350miles.

This will be broken down into 30 minute slots per machine as follows:

RUN:    3.5 miles
ROW:   4.4 miles
BIKE:    8.0 miles

This is the minimum to be achieved per machine within the 30 minute slot; anything else is a bonus and will mean an early finish! The intention is to commence at 0800 and to be complete by 1900 which gives an hour flex should we be all out of puff trying to achieve those times.

Below is the link to our chosen charity the Royal Navy and Royal marines charity and the link to the Armed Forces Day website with a full list of events taking place all over the world

What an Armed Forces Day! MCM Crew 4’s Chokepoint Challenge was a huge success.  The commitment, dedication and effort shown by the Crew was only matched by the generosity and support of all our friends and family – thank you all.  The effort commenced at 0800 sharp and continued until 1930.  The original target of 350nm was beaten by 1800, but such was the dedication that all concerned wanted to complete their stints, so by the time everyone had completed their heroic efforts the Crew has completed over 400nm and even had the support of RN staff based here in Bahrain, led by the Commodore, who contributed an extra 14nm. On the day the Crew also manage to collect over $350 which will be added to the impressive total pledged online.

The efforts on the day were impressive and many of the Crew decided to attempt back to back challenges, 30 min rowing, 30 min running and 30 min cycling one after the other. This proved harder than first anticipated but once everyone had completed their efforts the winner was ET(WE) Cameron who managed an impressive 18.5 nm.  Of note were the individual best performances over 30 min. AB (MW) Rickman managed 4.4m running, AB(D) Penny completed an exceptional 4.3m on the rower and the CO, Lt Cdr Goldstone completed 12.3 miles on the bike.

The website will stay active for several days so anyone who missed the chance to donate can still do so. Please enjoy the photos, some amusing, some inspirational and others just plain amusing and thank you for supporting this worthwhile charity and the Armed Forces, it is very much appreciated. Thankyou.
