Combat Stress
Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans, providing free specialist clinical treatment and welfare support to ex-servicemen and women across the UK with mental health conditions. We have 6,000 veterans registered with us. We treat conditions including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety. We provide a range of free services including short-stay clinical treatment, a specialist PTSD Intensive Treatment Programme, Occupational Therapy, Community and Outreach support and a free 24-hour Helpline. On average it takes 12 years from Service discharge for veterans to contact Combat Stress for help, by which time their condition is often highly complex. Heads Together and Row are Ali, Jez, Justin and Toby.

In December 2017, we will be attempting to row the Atlantic as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, the world's toughest rowing race.

It's a journey of around 3000 miles and takes around 9 weeks to complete.

With storms, adverse weather conditions, hunger and sleep deprivation, we will face the challenge of our lives.

Boats are seven meters long and just under two metres wide, with only a small cabin for protection against storms. All boats are equipped at the race start, and cannot take any repair, help or food and water during the crossing. There is a constant battle of sleep deprivation, salt sores and the physical extremes that the row will inflict.

From the start, the four of us knew that the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge had to be about much more than just personal achievement.

We wanted to raise money for charity and, given our own experiences with mental health, quickly agreed that Combat Stress was one of the charities we wanted to support.
